The original version was commisssioned by the BBC for their Concert Orchestra, who gave the first performance on 1 March 1985, conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes. The enlarged and re-orchestrated version was first performed by the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Arthur Davison, during their 1985 summer tour.
