Hamer of the Manchester Guardian has written to him to express the approval of the Newtown Liberals with his speeches: '... & they noted especially with satisfaction the tone of responsibility as of a Minister which I had acquired. Big fight in front. We must let loose the dogs at them bye & bye. They are straining at the leash'.
