The manuscript was at an early date at Bodysgallen, Caernarvonshire (in the possession of the Wynn family and, from 1776, the Mostyns of Plas Mostyn). A memo by H[owell] H[olland] E[dwards] (1762-1846) of Pennant Ereithlyn, Denbighshire (tipped in on f. i), states that the manuscript had been 'borrowed, or rather taken many years ago' [?before 1783] from Bodysgallen and records his wish for it to be returned to Bodysgallen's present owner; Edwards copied extracts of the manuscript in 1783 (see NLW, Gelliwig M3, currently uncatalogued). A memo [in the hand of Mary Gough] on Gelliwig, Pwllheli, headed notepaper (p. 165) states: 'This book was returned to Bodysgallen in May 1911, after having been absent quite 100 years, by Mary G. Gough of Gelliwig, into whose possession it had come from Canon Holland Edwards of Pennant & Miss [Margaret Grace] Jones [d. 1902] of Bryn Eisteddfod & Pennant'. Bodysgallen was then the home of Henry Lloyd-Mostyn (1857-1938), brother of the 3rd Baron Mostyn.

Nodiadau
An enclosed letter, 20 September 1924, from John Ballinger to [Henry Lloyd-Mostyn] (pp. 167-168), relating to the Wynn family of Gwydir, was the result of a misunderstanding concerning the contents of the present manuscript (Mostyn's letters to Ballinger, 18 and 24 September 1924, are in the National Library of Wales Corporate Archive).

For the identification of 'G.M.' as William Morgan see Daniel Huws, 'Golygydd Antiquitates Parochialia Henry Rowlands: William Morgan', in Tlysau'r Hen Oesoedd, 21 (April 2007), 6-8.
