Manuscript and typescript drafts, manuscript notes, press cuttings and photocopies of published and unpublished articles, interviews and speeches by Bernice Rubens. The subjects include her life and work, the Booker prize, her relationship with music, writers, the craft of writing, women's liberation, identity, patriotism, Jewishness, exile, the English and American novel, film adaptation of novels, her relationship with Cardiff, her home in London, moving house, melancholy, urban and rural life, family relationships and love, Jewish motherhood, and many others. Also included are an interview conducted by Bernice Rubens with the American composer Michael Tilson Thomas, a letter from an editor, an account of an Anglo-German seminar attended by Bernice Rubens, and manuscript fragments of articles.
