Manuscript and printed matter from the library of the Reverend J. M. Griffiths, Goginan relating to the life and work of the Reverend David Rees (1818-1904), Calvinistic Methodist minister, Bronnant, Cardiganshire (see J. M. Griffiths, Cofiant a Dywediadau y diweddar Barch. David Rees, Ll. B., Litt. D., Bronant (Dolgellau, 1910)). The material comprises two notebooks containing a holograph autobiography (the second volume also contains particulars of sales of the book by David Rees, Sylwadau .... a'r Lyfr y Pregethwr (Tregaron, 1890) and 'Nodiadau Dirwestol'); a pre-written memorial inscription in his own hand; sermons dated within the period 1874-98; a lecture entitled 'Darlith am HĂȘn Lyfrau Cymraeg Cymru Gymreig; 1892; a letter from the Reverend Joseph Rees [Calvinistic Methodist minister] and Elisa Rees, Port[rhyd]fendigaid to their son [Thomas Rees, afterwards Calvinistic Methodist minister at Taffs Wells, Glamorgan] at Dowlais, Glamorgan (personal news, an account of the first sermon preached by the recipient's cousin Dafydd Rees, the recipient's schooling, a controversy among Cardiganshire ministers on the appropriate age of admission of children to church membership); a letter from D[avid] Rees, Bronant to R. J. Davies, Cwrtmawr, 1891 (an unpleasant situation at Borth Monthly Meeting in connection with the writer's college degrees) (with a draft reply); a letter from David Rees, Bronant to Mr J. [?M] Griffiths, student, Trevecca, n.d. [c. 1895-9] (encouragement and advice, in the form of a lengthy treatise, to the recipient and his fellow-students); an inscribed photograph of David Rees presented to J. H. Davies, Cwrtmawr; two printed works by David Rees, the one being an imperfect copy of Llyfr Adgofion &c (Machynlleth, 1896) and the other a broadsheet entitled 'Pren y Meddwyn. Y Pren Dirwestol' (1899); press cuttings of 'Ymweliad a Dr. Rees, Bronant, Sir Aberteifi' by D. M. Phillips, Tylorstown from Tarian y Gweithiwr, Medi-Hydref 1892; and a postcard from [Sarah Jane Rees] 'Cranogwen', Llangranog to J. M. Griffiths, Goginan, 1910 (promising a contribution to [Cofiant ... David Rees]).
