Administrative history
The Burghill estate in Herefordshire belonged to the Biddulph family of Ledbury. Following the death of Richard Myddleton in 1796, the Chirk Castle estate, Denbighshire, was divided betwen his sisters. Charlotte, whose share of the estate retained the title Chirk Castle, married Robert Biddulph (1761-1814) in 1801. He subsequently assumed the name of Myddleton.
Archival history
The papers were previously held in the offices of F. & C. Bodenham of Rotherwas, Herefordshire, solicitors. It is possible that Mary Coats, or more likely her relations or descendants, were clients of the same firm.
