Administrative history

The Democratic Left was formed in 1991 to succeed the Communist Party Great Britain. The Democratic Left constitution states that: "The Democratic Left is the constitutional successor to the Communist Party of Great Britain by virtue of the alteration to rules and constitution adopted by the Special 43rd Congress of the Communist Party Great Britain. It exists in order to contribute to the development of a popular movement for a socialism which is democratic, humane and green." Bert Pearce was sometime treasurer of Democratic Left Wales / Chwith Democrataidd Cymru, Peter Polish was National Secretary, and Kate Baillie was the organiser. The Green Socialist Network was an environmental group affiliated to the Democratic Left.
