In 1600 Sir William Herbert of Cogan Pill purchased a portion of the manor of Dinas Powis from Elizabeth I, to add to the portion that was already his through inheritance. He appears to have been succeeded by 1610 by Sir John Herbert (d. c. 1619), sometime secretary to the Privy Council. By 1665, a moiety of the manor of Dinas Powis appears to have passed to Robert Greville (c. 1638-1676), baron Brooke of Warwick Castle, whose descendants sold the moiety to William Hurst of Gabalfa, Cardiff, around 1766. This Dinas Powis estate appears to have been sold to Henry Lee in about 1816, after the death of William Hurst (d. c. 1801) and of his widow (d. c. 1816). Other members of the Lee family include Edward Herbert Lee (alive 1839-1841) of Dinas Powis, esq., his son Rev. Henry Thomas Lee (fl. 1839-1868), and Major-general H. H. Lee (fl. 1879-1919) of Dinas Powis. The Wenvoe Castle estate also had an interest in the manor of Dinas Powis, 1839-1897, perhaps owning the other moiety.
