Biographical history

Edward Jones Williams (1857-1932) was a civil engineer from Mostyn in Flintshire. He was involved in the building of the Chubut Railway, Patagonia, at the beginning of the twentieth century and later became one of the most influential leaders of the Welsh colony.

Donated to the National Library of Wales by his son, Dr I. Mostyn Williams, Beaumaris, and Mrs M. E. Eames, Conway, in 1967.

Papers, 1878-1932, of Edward Jones Williams, relating mainly to the Welsh settlement in Patagonia and the Chubut Mercantile Company, comprising preparatory notes relating to the building of the Chubut Railway, c.1907, correspondence relating to both his work and to the Welsh colony, 1909-1932; and printed material, 1909-1932, including annual reports of the Chubut Mercantile Company, 1909-1928.
