Three notebooks in the hand of Hugh Jones ('Erfyl') - (a) an account book containing board and lodging expenses, 1828-33, 1843-4, an account with the Reverend R. M. Bonnor, 1831-2, washing account, 1844, account of lessons given to 'Master Wm. Lowe', 1829-30, 1832, and 'Master Temple', undated, and a list of 'situations' held by 'Erfyl' during the period 1810-30; (b) a 'cywydd' in memory of Owen Jones ('Owain Myfyr')' and (c) transcripts of 'carolau', or parts of 'carolau', by Hugh Jones, Maesglasau ('H. J. Senr.'), Hugh Jones, Llangwm, Ellis Roberts ('y cowper'), William Edwards, Ysceifiog, Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), and others. A volume issued, 1828, to the antiqury Angharad Llwyd, Tyn-y-rhyl, Flintshire, for the collection of subscriptions towards St David's Welsh Church, Liverpool, but utilised by her as a commonplace and autograph book. Verse and prose entries, 1830-1853, mostly of a religious nature, include autograph poetry by John Jones (Tegid), Thomas Price (Carnhuanawc), and Bryan Waller Procter (Barry Cornwall), and entries by Sir John Bernard Bosanquet, Lady Charlotte Guest, Augusta Hall, Lady Llanover, Henry Hart Milman, David Pennant, William Owen[-Pughe], Thomas Raffles, Henry Raikes, John Bird Sumner, and Frances Wrangham. Also included is a letter of address, 1828, to Angharad Llwyd from the Rev. Robert Davies, perpetual curate of St David's Church (f. iii).

Llawysgrif 'Llewelyn Twrog',

A mutilated manuscript originally used as an account book, 1833 and undated, but largely containing drafts by (Lewis (or Llewelyn) Edwards] 'Llewelyn Twrog' of poetry (to Ruthin, etc.), observations on eisteddfod reform (with references to the proposed publication of Taliesin (1859) and to the forthcoming Ruthin eisteddfod), an essay on 'Danteithion', slab sales accounts, 1861 and undated, an essay on 'Addysg Deuluaidd', etc.

Cymdeithas Cymreigyddion y Fenni

Miscellaneous papers (chiefly bills, receipts and printed items (circulars, posters, and handbills), with a few items of correspondence), 1834-1847 and 1853, relating to Cymdeithas Cymreigyddion y Fenni (Abergavenny Cymreigyddion Society). The letters are from D. Ellis, London, [the Rev.] J. B. Evans, Cwmyoy, [John Evans] 'Ieuan ab Gruffydd', Y Fenni, J. Dorney Harding, Doctors' Commons, Josiah Thomas Jones, Merthyr and Cowbridge, [Thomas Evan Watkins] 'Eiddil Ifor', Blaenau Gwent, Edward Williams, Merthyr Tydfil, and [the Revd.] Wm. Williams ['Caledfryn'], Carnarvon, and although written mainly to acknowledge receipt of money they also complement the series contained in NLW MSS 13182-13183E. Printed items include the programme of a concert to be given by Mr. [John] Parry, 'Bardd Alaw', accompanied by Miss Woodham and Mr. Parry, Jun. [i.e. John Orlando Parry], under the patronage of Lady Hall of Llanover, at Abergavenny, 7 September 1838; 'Pennillion i anerch yr Arglwyddes Hall ('Gwenynen Gwent')' by [John Jones] 'Tegid'; proposals, 4 January 1847, for publishing Gardd Eifion, the poetical works of [Robert Williams] Robert ab [sic] Gwilym Ddu...; a copy of J. Jenkins, An A B K, pe kenteliou bêr hak eas evit deski lenn Brezonek en nebeudik amzer (Montroulez: A. L. M. Ledan, 1835); and a copy which belonged to Lady Llanover of Report of the Abergavenny Eisteddfod..., 12-13 October 1853, published by The Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald, and North and South Wales Independent, with two presscuttings, 1885, relating to the welcome home celebrations at Llanover in honour of Colonel Ivor Herbert and his brothers.

Inset at the end of the volume are transcripts of Montgomeryshire pedigrees, etc. Much of the material in the volume has been transcribed from other volumes now in the Cwrtmawr Collection (e.g. MSS 200, 222, 242 and 243) and there are references to such sources as 'un o lyfrau Maesglas Mallwyd' (transcribed in 1857) (p. 269), a manuscript in the hand of Robert Arthur (p. 342), 'Llyfr ym meddiant Lowri Jones' (p. 380), etc. A note pasted on the inside of the upper cover states 'This Vol. was copied by Owen Jones (brother of Myrddin Fardd) from a MS Vol. ... in the handwriting of Lewis Morris [Cwrtmawr MS 200] now at Bryntanad, Llanerfyl Montgomerys[hire] (Richards) E. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

Englynion coffa Dafydd Ionawr

Transcripts of nearly two hundred and fifty epitaphs to David Richards (Dafydd Ionawr) in the form of englynion, many of which were written for a competition adjudicated by Ebenezer Thomas (Eben Fardd).

Albwm llofnodion, &c.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. The manuscript also includes memoranda correspondence, 1863-5, between David Evans, William Morris ('Gwilym Tawe'), secretary of Swansea [National] Eisteddfod (1863), [Morris Williams] ('Nicander'), and John Griffiths, rector of Neath, relating to the inability of David Evans to recover a 'Casgliad ... o Draddodiadau Gwirebau a Diarhebion Cymreig' submitted for competition at the Swansea Eisteddfod; and a catechism or play entitled 'Gwyddorydd neu Holwyddoreg Anudonaidd.
