Pembrokeshire title deeds (Lordships and manors of East and West Pembroke, and Cilgerran)

Deeds and documents concerning the lordships and manors of East and West Pembroke, and Cilgerran, which included the castles of Pembroke and Cilgerran, 1482-[c.1891]. The first file contains an inspeximus of documents relating to the lordship of Cilgerran, 1482. There are several leases and assignments to and by the Lewis family of Llangoedmor and Gellidowill, referring to the original grant of East and West Pembroke by James I in 1616. Other recurrent names are John Lloyd and Thomas Lloyd of Llanllawddog, who sold the lease of the lordahips to Nicholas Lewis of St Issells in 1661. The file for 1684-1787 contains suit rolls of the manors, listing freeholders and tenants of Lewis Pryse, 1720-1726. Some files contain accounts and receipts for crown rents. Other points of interest include the history and archaeology of the castle sites, legal issues mainly over trespass and transgressions on the sites and the involvement of the Corporation of Pembroke in managing the properties in the mid-19th century.

Breconshire title deeds

Title deeds of the Breconshire estate belonging to the Lewes (Lewis) family of Borden, Hurst and Aberrnantbychan, and later to the Pryses of Gogerddan, 1488-1774. The estate included the manor of Trewallter and Priors Court in Llan-gors, and other properties in the parishes of Brecon, Llanfihangel Nant Bran, Llanfihangel Tal-y-llyn, Llangasty Tal-y-llyn, Llywel and Merthyr Cynog. In addition to Lewes, other prominent family names are Games, Watkins and Vaughan

Corwen deeds and documents

Title deeds of houses and lands belonging to the Rug estate in the townships of Bonwm and Rhagad, and the parish of Corwen, 1529-1717. Boundary clauses consistently refer to the river Llechog and the house of John ap David ap John. The properties include Ty y Monwm, Y Penty Mawr, Y Ty Wen, Yr Ardd Newydd, Erw Dole Woogan, Erw'r Llechwedd, etc., most of which were purchased by Eubule Thelwall of Nantclwyd, Denbighshire, between 1659 and 1684. Other recurring names include John Thomas ap Robert [ap Rees ap Thomas], John Lloyd of Rhagad, John Mathew, Mathew Lewis, Owen ap John ap Howell and John ap Edward ap David ap Ieuan

Davies family bonds

A series of bonds and administrative and legal documents (1583-1789) relating mainly to the Davies and Pryce families of Maesmawr and Vennington, including bonds, settlements, indentures, and depositions.

Davies family papers

Papers relating to the Davies family, Maesmawr Hall (1673-1971) arranged in files relating to individual family members. The papers include correspondence, agreements and indentures, cuttings, bills and receipts, notes, certificates, sketches, and diary entries.

Rug legal papers

Legal papers of the Salesbury family of Rug, deriving from a dispute between Elizabeth Salesbury and Margaret Salesbury, and Roger Salesbury, concerning the payment of portions due to the plaintiffs under the trusts of the will of their father, Owen Salesbury, 1698-1715, and the case of Roger Salesbury about a deed executed at Ruthin, 1713, which may be indirectly related.

Pedigree rolls

A series of pedigree rolls, dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries, mainly of the lineage of the Davies family, Maesmawr and Fronfelen, but also including related families such as Lloyd, Llansanffraid; Wynn of Maes-y-Neuadd, and the Humphreys family.

Unsorted letters

Letters (1712-1913) relating to the Davies and Pryce families, Maesmawr Hall, together with various administrative documents, including notes, schedules and deeds, mainly relating to the Maesmawr estate.

Deeds of the Probyn family

Deeds relating to lands in south Wales belonging to members of the Probyn family of Newland, Gloucestershire, including Sir Edmund Probyn, his nephew John Hopkins, son of his sister Sarah, who was E.P.’s heir and took the name Probyn after his uncle’s death, and Edward Probyn the younger, 1719-1785.

John Dyer manuscripts

Papers, [c. 1722]-[c. 1855], of, or relating to, poet and artist John Dyer, including notebooks, [c. 1722]-1756, of John Dyer containing farming accounts, draft poems, extracts and miscellaneous memoranda; with additional material by W. H. D. Longstaffe which includes genealogical notes, [c. 1850], relating to John Dyer, and transcripts, [1847x1855], of his poems.

Tack notes

Tack notes (take notes) or licences issued by successive members of the Pryse family of Gogerddan or their agents, to mining prospectors to search for minerals and quarry stone at numerous locations on the Gogerddan estate near Aberystwyth in Cardiganshire, and near Machynlleth in Montgomeryshire, 1732-1772, 1859-1924; and books of counterpart tack notes granted by Pryse Pryse of Gogerddan in the manors of Genau’r-glyn and Nantryarian, 1852-1907.

Dyer family papers

Papers relating to the Dyer family of Aberglasney, Marylebone, Abbess Roding, etc., 1736-1948, including a volume of poetry in the hand of William Charles Dyer, 1761-1763; copies, [19 cent., second ¼]-1854, of letters from Fanny Morgan, Wales, to the Dyer family of Marylebone; genealogical papers, 1756-1948, accumulated by W. H. D. Longstaffe; and engravings, dated 1736-1841.
