Copies of 22 speeches given by Dame Margaret Lloyd George (1918-1921) relating to politics, charity functions, social work for the poor and the war wounded, the opening of schools, exhibitions, bazaars, an unveiling of a war memorial, presentations of awards, and addresses to major conventions. Also contains transcribed copies of the speeches, and also contains notes by the donor (grandson of Rev J.T Rhys) providing additional contextual information (2019). A booklet titled 'Mrs. Lloyd George Goes to Lampeter: 17th June 1919, A Rhys/Rees Story in Three Parts ' (see JTR MLG SP4 Lampeter Cardiganshire Liberals 17th June 1919) written by the donor is also included; originally a supplement to an exhibition in Lampeter Museum and a prior publication 'A Lampeter Family Story 1870-1971'.
Also contains copies of four letters from Viscountess Nancy Astor, 3 of which are to Mrs Lloyd-George, and 1 to JTR. Notes regarding the information and context of the letters from the donor are included.

Research notes on medieval Wales

Manuscript, typescript and photocopied notes on the history, society, culture and geography of Wales and the marches in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and associated aspects of English history, made and collected by Sharon Penman and relating particularly to matters relevant to Sharon Penman's Welsh princes trilogy including politics (local, national and international), governance, court officers, law and order, customs, marriage, divorce, inheritance, religion, economy, agriculture, social bonds, dynastic and familial relationships, warfare, military architecture, travel, weather, wildlife, folklore, language, proverbs, personal names, entertainment and heraldry; also included are a bibliography compiled by Sharon Penman and an empty but illustrated printed folder produced for schools by Gwynedd County Council, [1994], relating to the princes of Gwynedd.

Research notes on 'Falls the Shadow'

Manuscript notes by Sharon Penman, and also a number of photocopies, taken from primary sources and academic historical works relating to the detailed historical background of 'Falls the Shadow', together with Penman's own imaginative interpretations (generally within the parameters of the historical evidence), with particular reference to individual characters, events, themes and places that appear in the novel.

Report and Proposals for Wales: Local Government Commission for Wales

The file comprises a copy of the Report and Proposals for Wales, published by the Local Government Commission for Wales and presented to the Minister of Housing and Local Government in December 1962. The report includes detailed descriptions of local authorities along with radical proposals for a re-shaping of local government in Wales into 4 new counties covering north-east, north-west, mid and south west Wales along with changes to the boundaries of Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire and the removal of Merthyr Tydfil's County Borough status.
