Manuscript and printed matter from the library of the Reverend J. M. Griffiths, Goginan relating to the life and work of the Reverend David Rees (1818-1904), Calvinistic Methodist minister, Bronnant, Cardiganshire (see J. M. Griffiths, Cofiant a Dywediadau y diweddar Barch. David Rees, Ll. B., Litt. D., Bronant (Dolgellau, 1910)). The material comprises two notebooks containing a holograph autobiography (the second volume also contains particulars of sales of the book by David Rees, Sylwadau .... a'r Lyfr y Pregethwr (Tregaron, 1890) and 'Nodiadau Dirwestol'); a pre-written memorial inscription in his own hand; sermons dated within the period 1874-98; a lecture entitled 'Darlith am Hên Lyfrau Cymraeg Cymru Gymreig; 1892; a letter from the Reverend Joseph Rees [Calvinistic Methodist minister] and Elisa Rees, Port[rhyd]fendigaid to their son [Thomas Rees, afterwards Calvinistic Methodist minister at Taffs Wells, Glamorgan] at Dowlais, Glamorgan (personal news, an account of the first sermon preached by the recipient's cousin Dafydd Rees, the recipient's schooling, a controversy among Cardiganshire ministers on the appropriate age of admission of children to church membership); a letter from D[avid] Rees, Bronant to R. J. Davies, Cwrtmawr, 1891 (an unpleasant situation at Borth Monthly Meeting in connection with the writer's college degrees) (with a draft reply); a letter from David Rees, Bronant to Mr J. [?M] Griffiths, student, Trevecca, n.d. [c. 1895-9] (encouragement and advice, in the form of a lengthy treatise, to the recipient and his fellow-students); an inscribed photograph of David Rees presented to J. H. Davies, Cwrtmawr; two printed works by David Rees, the one being an imperfect copy of Llyfr Adgofion &c (Machynlleth, 1896) and the other a broadsheet entitled 'Pren y Meddwyn. Y Pren Dirwestol' (1899); press cuttings of 'Ymweliad a Dr. Rees, Bronant, Sir Aberteifi' by D. M. Phillips, Tylorstown from Tarian y Gweithiwr, Medi-Hydref 1892; and a postcard from [Sarah Jane Rees] 'Cranogwen', Llangranog to J. M. Griffiths, Goginan, 1910 (promising a contribution to [Cofiant ... David Rees]).

An agreement, 23 February, 1846, for the lease by Griffith Howell Vaughan, esq., of Rug, Merioneth, to Griffith Owen, of Vaner, parish of Llanelltyd; an indenture, 1 May, 1848, of apprenticeship for five years of Joseph Roberts of Rose Street, Ruthin, as master in Ruthin British School (Edward Jones of Brynhyfryd, esq., James Maurice of Well Street, esq., and John Jones of Market Place, Ruthin, managers, and John Edmunds of Ruthin, master) (a printed appendix contains extracts from minutes of the Committee of Council on Education, 21 December, 1846, and endorsed is an assignment of the original indenture to James Cromwell, successor to John Edmunds, 27 November, 1850); an unexecuted agreement for the lease from Hugh John Ellis Nanney of Gwynfryn, parish of Llanstymddwy, Caernarvonshire, esq., to David Evans of Cae Einion, Dolgelley, Merioneth, from year to year, commencing 25 March, 1887, of the farm called Cae Einion; a declaration signed by thirty-two students of Trevecca College, 11 November, 1889, denying statements made in Yr Haul 'concerning the intended secession of any student to the Church of England'; a galley proof of an article entitled 'Mr. Lloyd George, M.P., and the Goleuad', relating to Disestablishment and the bearing of Mr. Lloyd George's political action on Welsh Liberal policy, together with manuscript observations by Sir E. J. Reed, M.P. for Cardiff; a pedigree of the family of Jones of Llanio, Cardiganshire; miscelaneous poetry of Dolgelley interest (e.g. verses on the occasion of the marriage of Joseph Roberts, C.M., British School, and Miss Annie Jones, Penbryn, Dolgellau, 1860); a receipt for poor rate for the parish of Dolgelley, 1846; press cuttings, 1888, relating to the case of H. J. Ellis Nanney and his Merioneth tenants; Morris Charles Jones: Valle Crucis Abbey ... (London, 1866), bearing the name of R[ichard] Williams [Celynog, Newtown], 20 October, 1866; and 'Etholiad Cyffredinol 1900. An exercise book, 1930-1955, in the hand of the Rev. W. P. Jones, Principal of Trevecca College, Talgarth, containing an annual record of students admitted to the College for the years 1930-31 to 1954-55 (ff. 2-51 verso). Entries include the names of students and typically list their home and college addresses and, less frequently, ages and subjects studied.
The volume also includes various memoranda, notes, accounts and lists (ff. 1 recto-verso, 60, 70-82 verso and inside the covers), including petty cash and other accounts, 1932-1941 (ff. 60, 73 recto-verso, 75, 76-80 verso, 82), details of scholarship exams and awards, 1936-1940 (f. 72 verso, 74 verso, 75 verso-76), lists of new students, 1949-1952 (ff. 70 verso-71) and a list of landladies at Talgarth (f. 74). Items found loose in the volume (now in an archival envelope) comprise a letter, 14 January 1955, to W. P. Jones from Ieuan Ll. Jenkins, Dowlais (f. 83), and eleven printed copies of the Trevecca College Regulations, each signed by students of the 1954-55 intake (ff. 84-94). From 1906 to 1964 Trevecca was run by the Calvinistic Methodist Church as a preparatory college.

Annotated lists of students admitted to Trevecca Calvinistic Methodist college from its opening in 1842 until its closure in 1862 and from its re-opening in 1865 until 1899. The two lists, arranged in chronological order of admission, contain respectively seventy-nine and three hundred and twenty six names, and give in each case also the date of departure.
