Written on the inside lower cover is a long note by O[wen] Williams, Fronheulog, Waunfawr, 1857, of which the following is an extract, - 'Myfi a gesglais gynhwysedd y llyfr hwn o'r hen ysgrifiau a ddaeth i'm dwylaw oeddynt eiddo Dafydd Ddu Eryri ac a delais am eu rhwymo yn nghyd megys y gwelir yma er's llawer o flynyddoedd yn ol ...'.

An excise book containing four pages of excise accounts, [c. 1799]; texts of sermons; anonymous stanzas; free-metre poetry by D[avid] Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'] ('Aelod o Gymdeithas y Dderwen freiniol'), 1788 and undated, and T[?homas] Edwards [?'Twm o'r Nant']; verses left at the White Lion, Calais, and at the Ship Inn Dover, 'suppos'd to be written by Mrs. Piozzi'; a list (numbered 1-32) of curious flowers and plants at Trefeilir, Anglesey; an anonymous 'cywydd'; and a recipe.

A manuscript entitled 'Llyfr Ofer Gerddi Margaret Davies 1738', being a collection of 'carolau', 'dyrïau', 'Penillion', and 'englynion' compiled by Margaret Davies (c. 1700-85?), of Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd, Merioneth. An analysis of the volume ('Bannau'r Llyfr hwn ... by the scribe describes the contents as follows: 'Y Part Cynta or Llyfr sydd O Garolau Maswedd gan mwya. Yna Cerddi ar amryw fesurau Er Gofyn amryw Roddion. Ac yna Dirifau ne ddyriau Mawl merched. Ychydig Alar Gerddi. Amryw fasweddgerdd I ferched Ac ar amryw fesurau. Englynion'. Part I is based on 'Llyfr Brith Corsygedol' (Peniarth MS 198) and Part II on a manuscript probably in the hand of John Jones, Gellilyfdy. There are imperfect lists of contents at the beginning of each part. Bound in at the end of the volume, also in the hand of Owen Williams, are 'englynion' ('I'r Iesu', etc.) transcribed in 1853 from a manuscript (1655) of William Salesbury of Bachymbyd; two versions of an address on 'Helynt y Cymry, eu hiaith a'u defodau, etc.' delivered at Eisteddfod Tywyn, Tre Fadog, and prepared for publication in the Carnarvon Herald; and a biography of Richard Jones ('Gwyndaf Eryri'; 1785-1848). The volume is lettered on the spine in gold: 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

Two volumes entitled 'Llyfr o Hen Ganeuon wedi eu cyfansoddi ers 200 mlynedd. 1900'. The volumes are in the hand of J. H. Davies and contain transcripts, with annotations and collations, of 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'dyrïau', 'englynion' and 'awdlau' from the Welsh School and Cymmrodorion groups of manuscripts in the British Museum Additional Collection (MSS 14866-15089). A third volume entitled 'Llyfr o Hen Ganeuon', being a continuation of MSS 166-7 and comprising largely of transcripts by J. H. Davies from manuscripts in the British Museum, in the Cardiff Central Library, in the National Library of Wales and in Jesus College, Oxford of 'carolau', 'dyrïau', 'englynion', etc. by Hugh Roberts, Sion Roger, Hugh Morris, Harri Llwyd, Rowland Vaughan, E[lis] Anwyl, Wm. Phylip, Huw Llwyd, Jo. Griffith [Llanddyfnan], W[atcyn] Clywedog, Hen. Bodwrda, G[ruffudd] N[annau], Gr. Ph[ylip], Ffouck Llwyd ('o Henllan'), Rich. Hug[hes] (Dick Hughes), Thom. A religious treatise (v + 213 pp.) entitled 'Elw Mawr am Boen Fechan. Neu Gyfarwyddyd i gael Bodlonrwydd', followed by a list of chapter divisions ('Tabl o'r Cynhwysiad'). The work was completed 27 May 1707. Preceding the text is a series of nine complimentary verses entitled 'Englynnion o Barch a Chanmoliaeth i'r Llyfr a elwir Elw mawr am Boen Fechan' by 'C. G.', 30 May 1707, and at the end is an 'englyn' on 'Bodlonrwydd' in a later hand by 'Dafydd ap Tywyn'. There is at the beginning a page partly in the hand of the Reverend John Jones, Tyn'llwyn, Car[ ] containing entries of the burial [at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr], 9 [5 in bishop's transcripts] February 1808, of Edward Maurice Plas yn Glynn ('fy haen Gyfaill'), and of the birth, 27 December, and baptism at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, 29 December, of Edwd. Maurice, grandson of the said Edward Maurice.

A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. An imperfect late seventeenth and early eighteenth century commonplace book of Howell Tanat (Tanatt, Tannat, Tannatt), Trewylan Isa, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire. It contains poetry in free metres by Oliver Rogers, Humfrey Dauyd ap Ivan, William Philips, Rolant Voughan [sic], Howell Tanatt, Edward Rolant and Hugh Moris, and anonymous poems; English verses; accounts, 1685-1707 and undated (household, farm, payments to craftsmen, assessments of lewns in Llansantffraid and Llandysilio, etc.); short depositions touching a suit in the Court of Chancery relating to Robt. Kinaston [of Trewylan Ganol, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain] containing references to a plot and the keeping of a Jesuit priest; household and medical recipes; an incomplete dictionary of English phrases with their Latin equivalents; scriptural notes; a prayer; etc.

The volume was largely compiled during the years 1855-60 but there are some later entries dated to 1871. A minute book of the Berriew branch of the Montgomeryshire Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1818-20, together with lists of subscriptions and donations, 1818-25, and an account of Bibles distributed in the parish, 1819-23.
