A late eighteenth century collection of poetry in the hand of John Morris, Glan'r Afon containing 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. in free metres and a few englynion by Hugh Morus, Edward Samuel ('Person Llan-garw Gwyn'), [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd'), Richard Parry ('or Ddiserth'), Morys ap Robert ('o'r Bala'), Robert Evans ('o blwy Meifod'), Mr Robert Wynn ('Vicar Gwyddelwern'), Owen Gruffydd, Ellis Rowland (Harlech), Matthew Owen ('o Langar'), Mr W. Williams ('Person Llan Aelian yn Rhos'), 'Dai Seion' ('o Gaernarfon'), Mr William Williams [recte Wynn] ('o Langynhafal'), Sion Powel ('o Lansannan'), Edward Richard, [Walter Davies] ('Gwallter Mechain'), Jonathan Hughes, Edward Morris, Lewis Glyn Cothi and David Ellis. Preceding the text are 'englynion' by David Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'], David Ellis, [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd') and Evan Evans ['Ieuan Fardd'] ('Gweinidog Llanllechio' [recte Llanllechid]) and 'Awdl y Nef' by 'Ieuan Fardd ag Offeiriad'; a list of contents of the volume ('Testyn Caniadau'r Llyfr hwn'); an introduction by the scribe, dated at Glan'r Afon, 24 December 1793. The collection was begun probably in 1788.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', 'penillion', etc. in free metres by Hugh Moris and Rogiar Jones and numerous anonymous poems and scraps of verse. Also included are a rental of chief rents of Cynlleth yr Iarll and a rental of the tithe of Llangadwalader, Denbighshire, both undated, and a medical recipe. A note by Dafydd Marpole in Cwrtmawr MS 225, p. 86 attributes the present manuscript to the last quarter of the seventeenth century. Among later additions to the volume are holograph 'englynion' by Joseph Marpole ('yn llegys'), 1779. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith H. Morys a Roger Jones'.

A collection of poetry, etc. largely in the hand of David Jones. Examples of the scribe's signatures in the manuscript are dated 1704 and 1708 and the volume may therefore be attributed approximately to this period. It comprises 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion' and a 'cywydd' by T. Ed[wards], Hugh Morris, Cad[wala]dr Roberts and Thomas Maurice, together with anonymous poems; a few medical recipes; a table, undated, of the phases of the moon; an account, undated, of monies received [in the Llansilin area]; and a presentment of Edward Jones and Roger Lewis, churchwardens of the parish of Llanarmon mynydd mawr, 1705.

Transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen of carols, hymns, etc. by [Robert Roberts] 'Robin Meirion' (1827), Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Rowlan[d] Hugh ('r cryenin'), Arthur Jones, Hugh Jones (Maesglasau), Dafydd Harris and D. Silvan Evans ('Hirlas'), and anonymous compositions. The scribe's name on the fly-leaf is dated 1873. Beginning from the end, in another hand, are undated measurements of a house and farm buildings, etc.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. Thomas, John Morris, Aneurin Owain, Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), Sion Philip, Dafydd Rhys (Llanbryn Mair), [John Jones] 'Tegid', John William (Dolgellau), Thomas Jones (Creaton), Robert Davies (Nantglyn), William Wynne ('Person Llancanhafal'), Joseph Marpole, [?Thomas Roberts] ('Cyfell Cadfan' (1799), 'Philo Cadfan'), Cadwaladr Dafydd (Llan y Mowddwy), Owen Robert, David William [?Llandeilo Fach], David Harris (?Carno), Dafydd Jones ['Dafydd Siôn Siâms'] 'Dafydd ab Ioan' ('rhwymwr Llyfrau Penrhyn Deutraeth'), Rowland Hugh (Grienyn), David Ellis ('Dafydd Elis Gof Llan y Mowddwy'), D. A composite volume from the collection of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') written in several hands of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and comprising ten main sections: (I) The first section (pp. 1-121 and some unnumbered items) contains poetry by Tomas Edwards Nant, S[ion] Owen, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn Eifion' [sic] and (mainly) Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu'), some possibly in his autograph. Other items include a list of books ('Catalek of all ye books that I Have'), some accounts headed 'Cost Capel garn talwyd' and 'heb Daly am Capel garn', observations entitled 'Lwybr Dyn neu Ysdyriaethau ar bedair rhan oes Dyn' by Robert Williams, a letter, 1845, from Ellis Owen, Cefn y Meusydd, to Mr Robert Williams, Bard, Bettws fawr, Llanystumdwy, containing verses by Robert ab Gwilym Ddu entitled 'Pererindod o'r Aipht i Ganaan; and a list of poems by ['Robert ap Gwilym Ddu']. There are also some press cuttings and other additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). (Ii) A memoir of David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') by and in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). (Iii) Miscellaneous items including 'Pymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd', poetry by Huw Llwyd Cynfal, Dafydd ap Sion and y Parchedig Mr Goronwy Owen o Fôn, and draft of a letter from 'Dyngarydd' [?David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') ] to Mr Gomer' [? for Seren Gomer ], and 'A Memorandum Book' in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') containing notes on natural history, etc. in English transcribed from various printed sources. (Iv) Notes in Welsh in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') on theological subjects including extracts from 'Patrick's Places' i.e. the work of Patrick Hamilton, followed by short accounts of Phoenicia, Palestine, Assyria, Babylon, etc. (V) An incomplete poem entitled 'Carol Plygain am Bwrcas Crist tros eu [sic] Ddyweddi ...... (Vi) Two items in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') entitled 'Cyfrifiad byr am amryw o enwau neu Sectau a ymddangosasant yn y byd' (? incomplete) and 'Ateb i rai holiadau, mewn Llythyr oddi wrth yr Ysgrifennydd at ei ewythr John Roberts', which last item includes observations by Michael Roberts on one of the questions. (Vii) This section consists of sixteen pages and one loose folio. The first fourteen pages are in the autograph of William Elias, c. 1731-44, and contain poetry by Evan ap Llywelyn Vychan (beginning wanting), D. Parry, William Elias, J. Rhydderch, Owen Griffiths and D[afydd] N[anmor]. The next two pages contain verses in English by Gr: Lloyd and the loose folio contains 'englynion', one by Moris ap Evan ap Dafydd ['Morus Dwyfech']. A note at the foot of p. 9 reads 'Oed ein harglwydd, pan dorwyd, y ffordd y mynydd Bwlch Derwin gynta, 1739, y rhan isa, ai gorphen: Mehefin 18: 1740: Wm Ellias, a Griffith Davidd o fodychen, overseers', and there is a recipe for making ink on p. 10. (Viii) 'Englynion' by Edward Charles and a number of Welsh hymns (author's name not given). (Ix) This section is in the autograph of John Roberts [?'Siôn Lleyn'], 1767, and contains poetry by Roger Thomley, Michel Prichiard, Sion Thomas Bod-edern, Gwen Arthur, William Elias, Owen Griffith, John Philip, John Roberts, Hugh Roberts, Thomas Jones, Rich[ar]d Parry niwbwrch, ? W. Ell... and John Rogar [sic]. (X) Veterinary and other recipes, mainly in Welsh.

A manuscript written, 1674-1676, by Gwilym Pue [Puw], a member of the Roman Catholic family of Puw of Penrhyn Creuddyn, Caernarvonshire [D.W.B. (1959), p. 819] and containing a miscellany of verse and prose, much of it by Gwilym Pue himself. The title is given as 'Opera et Miscellania Domini Gwiliellmi Pue Cambrbrittanni M.B.' and 'Brithwaith Gwillim Pue M.B. Hefyd Gerdd yr un gwr a beirdd ereill Anno 1674: Pump o Garole Mr White, Hefyd Dau Garol o Fûchedd y Santes Gwenfrewy o waith Gwillim Pue 1674 M.B.,' and the volume is similar in content to, but not identical with, NLW MS 4710B, another volume written by Gwilym Pue but slightly later in date (1676). The contents following after 'Cyfrwyddiad y llyfr. Index libri' (to p. 648), a sketch of a harp ('Lyra' 'Telyn') and 'Trefn Cowair Telyn' are briefly as follows: pp. 1-44, 'Deongliad ar y Miserere', and pp. 45-61, 'Deongliad ar y Magnificat', two series of 'cywyddau' by Gwilym Pue; pp. 62-75, more 'cywyddau', by Gwilym Pue; pp. 76-196, 'Awdwley ag Englynnion', and also 'cywyddau' by Morgan Gwynn (Taliarys), Gwilym Pue, Thomas Williams, Edw. Canwyll y Cymry, carols and 'dyrïau', being compositions of the Reverend Rice Prichard, M.A. ('Yr Hen Ficer') (1579?-1644) (pp. 7-146), vicar of Llandovery, and others in the hand of William Salisbury, Bachymbyd. The manuscript was completed on 20th April 1637 (see pp. 148b, 327). The Reverend Prichard's works include a considerable number which seem never to have been published. Some of the poets whose works appear include Rhys Cain, Sion Tudur, Edmwnd Prys and Llywarch Hen. On p. 328 there is a note on the hot summer and early harvest of the year 1638, the harvest of 1637, and high winds in October 1638.

At p. 8 three triplets are written in the margin. For the estimated date of the manuscript see pp. 80, 132. The text at p. 127 differs greatly from that in the Book of Taliesin (see Peniarth MS 2).

A volume which belonged in 1791 to Evan Thomas, who is said to have been superintendent of the Penrhyn Quarry, Caernarvonshire, and afterwards to Michal Prichard and others. It contains 'Carol plygain', 'Cerdd Newydd o Gwynfan y Bardd au Berwig wedi Colli ei Wallt mewn Clefyd ...' by David Jones, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, 'Carol yw ganu ar agoriad y Melinydd ...' by Gryffydd Williams, etc.
