The contribution of the journalist Gareth Jones in uncovering the Holodomor is covered in this study.

Layers in the Landscape Archive

Manuscript, typescript and traditional printed material created as part of the interdisciplinary Layers in the Landscape project, which applied the concept of deep mapping to the submerged landscape of Cardigan Bay, and in particular the submerged forest at Borth. The papers relate especially to the theoretical side of the project (notably the geomythology of Cardigan Bay and the relationship between poetry and archaeology in the 'King of the Sea Trees' poem), as well as the 'Borth's lost legends' exhibition at Borth Station Museum.

Natural history diaries, 1935-1998, field notes, 1952-1994, typescript and published articles, 1947-1998, notes and correspondence relating to his books, 1933-1998, and to various natural history and historical subjects, card indexes, 1930-1998, and printed pamphlets, papers and books relating to Henry Thoreau, 1943-1999. There are several files of general personal correspondence, 1938-2016, including letters from R.S. Thomas. Inevitably, there are considerable overlaps between the various subsections of the archive, since Condry's interests, professional duties and literary activities were inextricably linked. Additional correspondence and papers, 1948-2020, including the files of letters from R. S. Thomas and his wife Mildred Elsie Eldridge (Elsi), 1968-1998, were transferred to NLW in December 2015, May 2018 and June 2020; a further letter, [c. 1946], by William Condry to Ray Perry, was donated in January 2016; a letter by Condry to his niece, Christine Demmar, enclosing a story about a pet jackdaw, was donated in August 2016; and transcript of a speech given by Chris Fuller at the opening of the William Condry centenary exhibition at MOMA, Machynlleth, in September 2018., donated in October 2018.

Research of Dr John Roderick Walters, Abergavenny, into the phonology of the accent of English in the Rhondda Valleys, South Wales. The study includes interviews with members of the workman's Clubs in the Valleys communities, audio recordings, PDF files of the transcripts, an analysis and findings. The research findings were published in his PhD thesis: A study of the segmental and suprasegmental phonology of Rhondda Valleys English, at the then University of Glamorgan, 1999. The collection consists of papers, correspondence, and financial documents, all related to the establishment and running of the Society, including meeting minutes, 1920-2018 (with gaps); financial documents and account statements, 1944-2010, and secretary’s reports and correspondence, 1985-2017 (with gaps), along with other general administrative papers, 1986-2018 (with gaps); and papers, correspondence, photographs, and press cuttings relating to the Society’s events and activities, 1948-2019 (with gaps), including rallies, Eisteddfodau, St David’s Day celebrations, concerts, and other events including the Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 1994.

Copies of 22 speeches given by Dame Margaret Lloyd George (1918-1921) relating to politics, charity functions, social work for the poor and the war wounded, the opening of schools, exhibitions, bazaars, an unveiling of a war memorial, presentations of awards, and addresses to major conventions. Also contains transcribed copies of the speeches, and also contains notes by the donor (grandson of Rev J.T Rhys) providing additional contextual information (2019). A booklet titled 'Mrs. Lloyd George Goes to Lampeter: 17th June 1919, A Rhys/Rees Story in Three Parts ' (see JTR MLG SP4 Lampeter Cardiganshire Liberals 17th June 1919) written by the donor is also included; originally a supplement to an exhibition in Lampeter Museum and a prior publication 'A Lampeter Family Story 1870-1971'.
Also contains copies of four letters from Viscountess Nancy Astor, 3 of which are to Mrs Lloyd-George, and 1 to JTR. Notes regarding the information and context of the letters from the donor are included.

Papers donated by the Aberystwyth, Pontypridd and Cardiff branches of Welsh Women's Aid. They include material relating to the constitution, corporate structure, strategic development and codes of practice of Welsh Women's Aid; records of its Management Committee and of numerous departmental meetings; internal and external correspondence; accounting, fundraising and other administrative papers; material celebrating Welsh Women's Aid's twenty-first, twenty-fifth and fortieth anniversaries; and individual branch archives of Welsh Women's Aid, all of which reference the issues affecting women and their children who access Women's Aid, such as domestic violence, social welfare and law and legislation.

There is considerable overlap of subject-matter within sections of the archive: for example, corporate and work reports, statistics and questionnaires, as well as material relating to violence against women, children/families, housing and benefits appear under multiple sections, while records of individual group meetings such as Employment and Finance or material relating to accounts, conferences, training courses, etc frequently appear under details of Management Committee meetings, Annual Reviews and so forth.

Frances Stevenson Family Papers

The fonds comprises a substantial group of letters and papers, 1911-1972, acquired by Frances as private secretary to Lloyd George, including some business papers, notebooks of reminiscences and printed items. There are letters from a number of prominent politicians and public figures. There is also a small group of letters and papers, 1912-1965, concerning Lloyd George himself, papers, 1933-1946, relating to Jennifer Longford's schooldays, and a few papers relating to other members of the Stevenson family, notably Frances's sister Muriel and brother Paul. The material in sub-fonds G was loaned by Mrs Ruth Nixon of Camberwell to the National Library of Wales to be digitised in March 2013 and subsequently returned to her a few months later. Some of this material was subsequently purchased by NLW in 2017 and catalogued as sub-fonds H. The 2017 purchase includes various articles about Lloyd George, a draft memorandum partly in the hand of Lloyd George and partly in the hand of Frances Stevenson regarding the early part of the First World War, letters from Frances Stevenson to her family, including some from the Versailles Peace Conference, notes following Lloyd George's speeches and papers relating to Jennifer Longford including letters between her and Lloyd George.
