A manuscript in two volumes containing a corpus of Welsh strict-metre verse consisting almost entirely of 'cywyddau', and a few Welsh prose items. The foliation of the 'text' (original f. 1 missing, original ff. 2-21 renumbered 1-20, a previously unnumbered folio between original ff. 21-2 now f. 21, ff. 22-623 as originally numbered with 75 twice and 265 and 577 missed out) is continuous, and the division into vol. I (ff. 1-300), now NLW MS 13061B, and vol. II (ff. 301-623), now NLW MS 13062B, occurs in the middle of a poem. Unnumbered leaves of later origin than those of the text have been inserted at the beginning and end of each volume. The manuscript, sometimes referred to as 'Y Byrdew Mawr', is in the hand of Thomas ab Ieuan of Tre'r-bryn, parish of Coychurch, co. Glamorgan, the scribe of NLW MSS 13063B, 13069B, and 13085B, and was probably transcribed in the last quarter of the seventeenth century, partly from the manuscripts of an earlier Glamorgan copyist, Llywelyn Siôn (see TLLM, tt. 95, 167-73, 218-19, 268; IM, tt. 87, 154, 264; and IMCY, tt. 81, 175). It was probably presented to Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') by the copyist's grandson also named Thomas ab Ifan (see TLLM, tt. 170, 268). The contents include (revised foliation) :- 1 recto - verso, rules re interpreting the significance of dreams in relation to the phases of the moon (incomplete); 1 verso-8 recto, another set of rules (183) for interpreting dreams ('Deall braiddwydon herwydd Daniel broffwyd'); 8 recto-11 recto, a sequence of forty-eight 'englynion' entitled 'Englynion rhwng Arthur a Liflod i nai' (see The Bulletin of the Board of Celtic Studies, vol. The unnumbered folios at the beginning of each volume contain a list of the contents of the volume giving, in the case of the poems, the name of the poet, in a hand bearing a strong resemblance to that of William Owen Pughe, and the title of the poem, in the hand of Edward Williams. The folios at the end of the first volume contain an index of the bards whose works appear in both volumes. This is possibly in the hand of Hugh Maurice, tanner and copyist. On one of the added folios at the end of the second volume is a poem to the Reverend John Jones, D.D., dean of [the cathedral church of] Bangor. Both volumes contain marginalia in the hand of Edward Williams.

A composite volume ettered on the spine 'M.S.S. Vol. VI' containing miscellaneous material, chiefly in the hand of William Owen [-Pughe]. Pages 283-98 are in the hand of John Davies, Pentrefidog, and a note by him on p. 298 reads: 'Mae yn ddrwg ginni na allaswn ei wneuthur yn well yr wyf wedi mynd yn rhy garnbwl wedi gadel y 90. o oedran J:D.'. A manuscript, in two parts, in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd). The first part (old foliation 1-56) contains a dedication to Sir Watkin Williams Wynn of Wynnstay and a dedicatory preface in which it is stated that this transcript was made from the exemplar of William Maurice of Cefn y Braich 'in tua Bibliotheca Lanvordaviana' (pp. 3-12), and an address to the reader which relates to the sources of the collection (pp. 17-95); Gruffudd Hiraethog's 'Lloegr-drigiant Ddifyrrwch Brytannaidd Gymro' (pp. 97-109; cf. Peniarth MS 155); and a copy of the Latin and Welsh prefaces as printed before the Proverbs in the Dictionarium Duplex of Dr John Davies, 1632 (pp. 110-112). The second part (old foliation 1-316) contains 'Adagia Britannica' or Welsh proverbs collected by 'yr Hên Gyrys o Jal', with translations into Latin and some illustrative notes by Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, copied from the transcript made by William Maurice of Llansilin 'ex prototypo' in 1675 (this collection is fuller than that printed at the end of Dr Davies's Dictionary) (pp. 113-654); followed by 'Cas bethau gwyr Rhufain' and 'Cas ddynion Selyf Ddoeth', etc. (pp. 655-680); further material from the 'Lloegr-drigiant Ddifyrrwch Brytannaidd Gymro' of Gruffudd Hiraethog (pp. 689-733); etc.

An incomplete folio manuscript containing genealogies, mainly of North Wales families, written towards the end of the sixteenth century, together with extensive additions, revisions, and critical observations in a number of hands (including 'H.R.' amd 'E.Ll.') of approximately the period 1633-1685. The volume is a compilation from various sources, of which some are specified, e.g. the hands of books of Lewys ap Edward, H[umphrey] L[lwyd], Simwnt Vychan, Lewys Dwnn (based in one instance on 'llyfr koch o bowys' - 'Pechod na losgid y llyfr hwnnw'), Ievan Llwyd Jeffrey, Geo[rge] Owen, Gruff[ydd] Hiraethoc, W[illia]m Llyn, William Kynwal, John 'vn llawioc', 'Mr. Puleston o Drefalyn', Guttyn Owen, 'y llyfr dv o gaer vyrddin', etc.

The title is derived from the third section which contains a number of poems to members of the Wynn family of Moelyrch in Llansilin. Amongst the poets represented are Hywel Cilan, Tudur Aled, Rhys Cain, Gruffudd Hiraethog, Sion Cain, Guto'r Glyn, Edmwnd Prys, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Iolo Goch, Cynddelw Brydydd Mawr, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Taliesin, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Dafydd Nanmor and Wiliam Cynwal. Miscellaneous material in the volume includes a copy of an award relating to Moelyrch, 1540; a fragment of a letter by Charles I; the pedigrees of Oliver Cromwell, Holland and Morris, and Kyffin of Bodfach; a roll of the Caerwys Eisteddfod, 1567; an extract from 'Breuddwyd Rhonabwy'; a list of the sheriffs of Denbighshire from 1541 to 1635, with additions to 1658; a copy of documents relating to the treaty of alliance concluded between Charles VI of France and Owain Glyndŵr; extracts from the epigrams of John Owen; and extracts from scripture.

In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well. Edward Jones, 'Bardd y Brenin'], etc. (377-811); notes criticising the theories that the Druids had inhabited caves or underground dens (382); a list of sayings headed 'Welsh proverbial Piety Glam.' (402); extracts from the parish register of the parish of Lanmaes [co. Glamorgan], late 16th-18th cent. (407-22); a list headed 'Enwau Rhai a fuant fyw yn hen iawn ym Morganwg' containing the names of, or copies of memorial inscriptions to, persons in Glamorgan who, from the period of the saints to the nineteenth century, had lived to be octogenarians, nonagenarians, or centenarians ( 425-31; a few items added by Taliesin Williams); an anecdote relating to an old man from Glamorgan whose mare had been stolen by [Oliver] Cromwell's soldiers (434 this appears to be in the hand of Taliesin Williams); further examples of, or notes relating to, instances of longevity in Glamorgan (435-9); two brief lists headed 'Dynion hynod am rym Corph ym Morganwg' (two items added in the hand of Taliesin Williams) and 'Hynod am ysmalhewch'’ (440); a list of ? Glamorgan bards, 15th-18th cent. (441 + 444 ); extracts from Brown Willis: Survey of the Cathedral Church of Landaff relating to Dubricius, bishop of Landaff, ob. 522, Herewald, bishop of Landaff, ob. 1113, and Edward Davies, rector of St. Brides, ob. 1672, all three being examples of longevity (445-6); a copy of a Latin memorial inscription to the Reverend Edward Pritchard, rector of the parish of Flimston [co. Glamorgan], ob. 1742, in the parish church, with notes and anecdotes relating to him (447-50; see IM, tt. 97-8); and further notes relating to, and names of, nonagenarians and centenarians ? all of Glamorgan (451-4, 465-71; one additional note m the hand of Taliesin Williams).

An incomplete volume (ff. 1-85, 176-243) consisting largely of cywyddau and englynion by Sion Kent, Sion Tudvr, Grvffydd Grvg, Meredith ap Rees, Will'm ap Sion ap D'd, Gruff' Hiraethog, Will'm Llynn, Huw Arwistl, D'd ap Edmwnd, D'd ap Gwilim, Rob't Leiaf, Rys Goch or Yri, Mastr Hari, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Gytto Glyn, Sion Philipp, Roger Kyffyn, Ievan Fychan, Sr. Davydd Trevor, Tudur Penllyn, Rowland Fychan, Tomas Prys, Evan Tudvr Owen, Ievan Brydydd Hir, William Elias, Tudur Aled, Gruff' ap Ievan, Rys Pennarth, Bedo Aerdrem, Bedo Brwynllys, Iolo Goch, Ellis Rowland, Howel ap D'd ap Ievan ap Rys, D'd Namor, D'd Ddv o Hiraddvc, Lewys Glyn Kothi, Howel ap Ievan ap Rys, Owen Gruffydd, Michael Prichard, Edmwnd Price, Hughe ap Ed'd Lloyd, Rice Kain, Richard Hughes, [Richard Davies] 'Escob Dewi', Ed'd Maelor, Ievan ap Tudvr Penllyn, Harrie Howell, Sion Kain, and Robin Ddv. Towards the end of the volume there are short texts such as englynion in Latin, 'llyma gas bethav Owain Kyveiliog', 'xxiiij gwell', 'Geirie gwir Taliesin', triads, proverbs, the nine grades of kinship, medical recipes, 'Llyma henwau y pedair Caingc ar ddeg Cydwgan a Cyhelyn', and 'Henwau'r pedwar Gosdeg Cerdd dannau'. The greater part of the manuscript was written in the seventeenth century; but there are additions and marginal notes to the nineteenth century. There is an index ('Tabl y llyfr') to ff. 1--76, in a seventeenth century hand. Between ff. 4 and 6 are inserted two leaves (pp. 129-30, 135-6) of David Jones (Trefriw) (ed.): Cydymaith Diddan (Caer Lleon [1766]).
