The 'book of Jaspar Griffith', containing poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym, Rhys Fardd, Iolo Goch, Taliesin, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd [Dafydd Llwyd, Mathafarn] and others. Item 1 is a series of complaints between several parties 'fel y maent yn scrifennedic o Law Gyttyn Owein'. Items 2-15, 17-46 contain a series of englynion 'o hen lyfr oedd gyd a S. Trefor Trefalun'. There is a note at item 128 possibly in the hand of Dr John Davies, Mallwyd. A note at Item 201 states: 'Hyn sy yn canlyn a dynnais i allan o'r Llyfr Du o Gaerfyrddin'. The first line of item 264 is given by some as the first line of Item 263, which forms a second half of this cywydd. For Items 266 and 270, where Huw Pennant and Dafydd ab Edmwnt are here given respecitvely as the authors of the works, a later insertion claims authorship as being that of Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (Dafydd Llwyd, Mathafarn).
Jaspar Griffith at one time had in his care or possession Peniarth MSS 1 and 53, both of which are largely copied in this manuscript. The style of the handwriting resembles certain of Griffith's marginalia in Peniarth 1 and 53 so it is inferred that this manuscript is also in his hand. The paper used for this manuscript was originally designed for what looks like a Latin vocabulary; however, one line only was written at the top (now the bottom, inverted) of the page. Items 159-172 are as in Peniarth MS 53 (pp. 1-29, 34) but more complete here. Cf. Peniarth MS 50 (pp. 222b-236, 304). Items 175, 176, 177, 180, 181, 182, 183, 190 occur also on pp. 15, 54, 112, 88, 91, 126, 99, 68 respectively of Peniarth MS 53. The text at items 203-236, 271-274 corresponds with Peniarth MS 1. Inserted at Item 237 is a transcript 'verbatim out of a printed book now supposed to be in the custody ... of Hugh Bevan ... of Llanwnen', which describes the 'Characters' of the gentry of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire during the Protectorate. The note is signed 'O. P. Maridunensis'.

Pp. 1-22 are in the hand of David Parry, and pp. 23-36 probably also in his hand. The poets cited include Taliesin, Sion Tudur and Dafydd ab Edmwnd.

A photostat facsimile of Balliol MS 353, a commonplace book of Sir John Price (1502?-1555). The manuscript contains genealogical memoranda relating to the family of John Price (Siôn ap Rhys) and his wife, Johan Williamson, notes on Welsh bardic grammar, proverbs, triads, and miscellaneous memoranda; transcripts of Welsh poetry including eulogies of the compiler and of his ancestors. A volume in the hand of Ieuan Fardd containing 'the original text and a modernised version with a metrical rearrangement of the lines' of y Gododdin (pp. 1-89); together with the Songs of Taliesin (pp. 91-101); and a translation into Welsh by Ieuan Fardd of [Florentius] Volusenus's 'De Animo Tranquillitate' (pp. 103-112).

A manuscript containing a copy of the Book of Aneirin (pp. 1-81); a copy of the version of the Triads in the Red Book of Hergest (pp. 83-106, 113-114); a copy of a charter giving Cyfeiliog to Strata Marcella (pp. 115-117) (see Llanstephan MS 156, p. 180); notes on the three divisions of the Druids (pp. 126-130); and various notes and extracts.

A composite volume, mainly in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), copied from manuscripts of Lewis Morris and others 'ynghylch y flwyddyn 1765' (p. i), including 'Englynion y Beddau' (pp. 1-15) and 'Englynion y Clywed' (pp. 15-28); 'Gildas Nennius' (pp. 49-60). The second part (ff. 1-35) contains 'Hanes Taliessin' (pp. 61-69); genealogies taken from a manuscript of Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt (pp. 80-89); extracts from Dares Phrygius, Brut y Brenhinedd and Brut y Tywysogion (pp. 97-101); Bonedd y Saint (pp. 109-115); 'Hanes yr ymrysson rhwng Edmund Prys a W. A letter, 7 December 1758, from Lewis Morris, Penbryn, to Evan Evans, Llanllechid, is tipped into the volume (pp. 135-138).

A manuscript volume bearing the title 'GODODIN M.S.'. The volume contains a collection of transcripts made by William Owen [-Pughe] in 1784 of Cynfeirdd poetry and is entitled 'Y Cynfeirdd Cymryig sef (Barddoniaeth yr Oesoedd Cynnaraf] Cynnulliad Gwilym Owain, o Feirion'. There is a water- colour sketch on page ii incorporating the quotation 'Bedd Tydain [sic] Tad Awen Yngodir Bron Aren' which is written in the bardic alphabet as is 'Barddoniaeth yr Oesoedd Cynnaraf' on the title-page (p. iii). The contents of the volume are listed by title on pages vii-xi, and variant readings have been added in the margins at a later date referring to 'Llyfr P.P.' [Paul Panton], 'Llyfr E.D.' [Edward Davies of Olveston, co. Gloucester], and 'Ll.H.' [Llyfr Hir]. Most of the contents of this volume have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., Vol. 1, (London, 1801), although not in the same order. The poems in the present manuscript are attributed to the following poets: Aneurin Gwawdrydd, Llywarch Hen, Taliesin, Golyddan, Meigant, Myrddin Wyllt, Elaeth, and Gwenddydd chwaer Merddyn Wyllt.

An imperfect volume written by Perys Mostyn otherwise Perys ap Rychart ap Howell 'o degaingl (degygl)', 1543, with one lacuna (7 pp.) completed by John Lloyd of Caerwys, c. 1779, from a manuscript of Ed[ward] Llwyd [sic] in the Sebright library. A small paper manuscript of the second half of the sixteenth century containing a calendar of Welsh saints ('llyma hennwav saint bryttaniaid'); a list of rivers largely in Cardiganshire ('llyma henway prif afonydd ag oble imaent yn tarddv allan oi dechreyad'); and 'Barnad owen ap vrien owaith argoed llwyfain' and 'Barnod [sic] vthvr pendragwn Cad arthvr owaith taliessin ben beirdd'. There are some additions by Peter Bailey Williams. The end papers consist of portions of pages of an early printed book.

A volume containing two collections of transcripts of poetry, with copious annotations, in the hand of Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waunfawr. The first collection, entitled 'Llwyn y Gell', includes 'cywyddau', etc. by Gruff. At the beginning is a list of poets whose titles were taken from Y Greal and a list of titles of poems transcribed in full. The collection was compiled during the period 1855-9, although the fly-leaf bears the scribe's name dated 1863. The second collection, beginning at the end, is entitled 'Y Gell Gynen, ('herwydd canau cynen sydd ynddo') and contains fliting poems ('ymrysongerddi') between Edmwnt Prys and William Cynwal and Sion Philip and Edmunt Prys, together with additional 'cywyddau' by Edmunt Prys. This section of the manuscript was compiled between 1844 and 1846, but there are some additions of the period 1859-61. Recorded on the upper end paper are timber purchase accounts of Owen Williams, 1844-5. The manuscript is lettered on the spine 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

Inset at the end of the volume are transcripts of Montgomeryshire pedigrees, etc. Much of the material in the volume has been transcribed from other volumes now in the Cwrtmawr Collection (e.g. MSS 200, 222, 242 and 243) and there are references to such sources as 'un o lyfrau Maesglas Mallwyd' (transcribed in 1857) (p. 269), a manuscript in the hand of Robert Arthur (p. 342), 'Llyfr ym meddiant Lowri Jones' (p. 380), etc. A note pasted on the inside of the upper cover states 'This Vol. was copied by Owen Jones (brother of Myrddin Fardd) from a MS Vol. ... in the handwriting of Lewis Morris [Cwrtmawr MS 200] now at Bryntanad, Llanerfyl Montgomerys[hire] (Richards) E. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

A small volume, originally with clasps, containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan ab Evan (lines from Anacreon), Taliesin, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, John Philipp, Richard Philip, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Tudur Aled, John Dafies (Dafis), Owen Gwynedd, W(illiam) Llyn, Sion Brwnog (Brwynog), Dafydd Trefor, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Iolo Goch, Thomas Prys o Blas Iolyn Esgwier, Hugh Llwyd Cynfal, Doctor (Sion) Cent, Tudur Penllyn, Edward M[orus], Sr. Morgan, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh ap Ev. ap Ro[ ] and Wmphre David. The contents appear to have been transcribed after 1744 from a manuscript annotated by Lewis Morris, and a note on p. 100 suggests a connection with BM Additional MS 14866, although none of the poems are to be found in that volume. There are a number of quotations in the margins and elsewhere from Pope, Homer, Dryden, etc. At the beginning, in a later hand, are an 'englyn' by Siencyn Thomas Morgan and an 'englyn' which is described as being on the tombstone of the Reverend Alban Thomas of Blaen y Porth, Cardiganshire. A note in pencil on the limp boards which were originally inside the vellum cover reads 'Gwaith hen Feirdd MS from Rev. Armstrong Williams'.

A manuscript in the hand of 'David ap Griffith effyriad' (see pp. 13, 14) containing medical precepts and prescriptions (pp. 15-27, 54-92), material of botanological (pp. 28-40), physiological (pp. 41-49) and theological (pp. 1-12) interest, and poetry (pp. 13-14, 50-53). The section on botany includes a Latin-Welsh vocabulary of plant names. Poetical works cited are those of Taliesin, Dafydd ap Gruffydd and Gruffudd Gryg.
There are traces of the hand of Sir Thomas Wilems (p. 40), and also of another hand on many folios.

Welsh poetry transcribed by Moses Williams from Llyfr Coch Hergest (the Red Book of Hergest), cols 1026, 1028-1031, 1034, 1039-1049-1056. At the end of the manuscript is a copy of a letter (f. 60), dated at Oxford, 7 September 1708, relating to the burning of Irish and British manuscripts by Jesuit missionaries in Brittany, 'excepting such as tended to Devotion'.

A manuscript written c. 1648 (see p. 658) containing poetry, the poets cited including Taliesin, Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Wiliam Cynwal and Siôn and Rhisiart Phylip. An index, with the poets' names arranged alphabetically, has been added at pp. 659-672 by Richard Morris for William Jones in London, 1746.
Many lines and half lines are wanting throughout the text owing probably to the imperfection or illegibility of the originals.

A manuscript containing an 'Important Corpus of Welsh Poetry' compiled by the Reverend Samuel Williams and Iaco ab Dewi [James Davies], with the first lines of the poems given alphabetically in an index. The volume also contains 'Histori Pren y Fuchedd', and a (non-autograph) letter from Siôn Mawddwy to Meurig Dafydd. Added at the end of the volume is a fifty-page index to the authors of the poems compiled by Richard Morris in 1747. Ff. 196-243 (containing poems numbered 632-737) are in the autograph of Iaco ab Dewi, while the remainder of the volume, excluding the end index, is in the hand of Samuel Williams. The poets cited include Taliesin, Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Siôn Mawddwy, Gruffudd Hiraethog, Tudur Aled and Siôn Phylip.

A manuscript containing poetry, prophecies, 'histories', etc. and including 'Kynghorev Kattwn ddoeth ar bardd glas or gadeir' (pp. 27-29). The poets cited include Taliesin, Iolo Goch, Siôn Cent and Lewys Morganwg.
The text beginning at p. 39 is imperfect and the end is wanting from the texts beginning at pp. 42, 80, 116. Four leaves, more or less fragmentary, by a later hand, have been bound between pp. 82 and 83, the end wanting from the text on the last leaf of this section. At p. 112b, c is a misplaced leaf containing English poetry.

A manuscript in the hands of the Reverend Samuel Williams, Moses Williams, Iaco ab Dewi and others, containing one hundred and sixty-eight numbered items, mainly poetry, including about two hundred and thirty-five triads (item 13). The poets cited include Taliesin, Bleddyn Fardd, Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Siôn Cent and Siôn Phylip. Item 165 contains a genealogy of Welsh saints. Item 166 is a copy of cols 1165-1169 of the Red Book of Hergest. Item 167, which contains englynion, is in the hand of Edward Lhuyd, and was 'sent through the post to W. Baxter in Totnham Highcross near London'. Item 168 is a piece entitled 'A true Character ... of the Gentry within the Counties of Carmarthen, Pembroke and Cardigan during the Commonwealth'.
