An extensive collection of hymn-tunes begun by Thomas Jones at the age of twenty-three, in 1841. A large number of the signed tunes are by John Ambrose Lloyd. Other composers represented are J. Hughes [Allt-lwyd], R[obert] J[ohn] Pryse ['Gweirydd ap Rhys'], C. Jones, R. Williams, D. Williams, W[illiam] Owens [or Owen], W. Pritchard, R. Griffith, R[osser] Beynon ['Asaph Glan Taf'], D[avid] J[enkin] [Dafydd Siencyn] Morgan, W. Griffith, D[avid] Roberts ['Alawydd'] and D[avid] Hughes ['Cristiolus Môn']; and examples of Welsh hymns.

A book of hymn-tunes and anthems described as 'Hen Lyfr Dafydd Jones, Bont'. The majority of the items are anonymous. The following composers are represented: 'R. W.', W. J. White, B. Mills, 'T. W.', J[ohn] Edwards, Llangadog, R[ichard] Mills ['Rhydderch Hael'], J[ohn] A[mbrose] Lloyd and J. C. Edwards ('Minimus'). Pasted to the back cover is a printed copy of 'Pennillion i'w Canu yn Nghylchwyl Cymdeithas Ddirwestol Penllyn'.

Fifteen manuscript tune books belonging to Iolo Morganwg, including five volumes of hymn-tunes composed by him for his Welsh hymns or 'salmau', each entitled 'Salmyddiaeth Iolo Morganwg' or variants thereof (E2/1-5), together with several others containing at least some salmau (E2/8-12). Also included are volumes containing English hymns (E2/6, 11), Tribannau (E2/13) and Scottish airs (E2/15).

Salmau

A bundle of loose sheets (E4/1) and five small booklets (E4/2) containing various drafts of introductions and glossaries for Iolo's hymns, or 'salmau', presumably intended for the two volumes of his Salmau'r Eglwys yn yr Anialwch (1812, 1834); together with two bundles containing drafts and fragments of Iolo's salmau (E4/3-4).
