A composite volume of the second quarter of the eighteenth century containing English poetry (eclogues, epigrams and epitaphs); Latin poetry (extracts from Cato, Virgil and Ovid, epitaphs and epigrams); and Welsh poetry largely in free metres. The Welsh poems are generally anonymous but some of them, as well as one of the English epitaphs, are assigned to John Morys (Maurice) (1736-47), and there are single compositions by Humph[rey] Owen, B[ardd] C[wsg] (1732), J[ohn] R[hydderch], E[van] W[illiam] and Owen Griff[ydd] (1733). An addition to the volume contains a poem in Welsh by 'Gilielmus Didymus' (1755). . Inscribed in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen on the inside upper cover: 'Pwy a ddwyn hwn Bydd ei ran gyda Lladron yn Dragwyddol'.

A volume containing items of verse, etc. (French, Latin, English, Spanish), not all by Thomas Powell, with a reference to the transit of Venus over the sun, 3 June 1769, as observed at Clapton. A later item lists recitations at North Walsham Grammar School, June 1853.

Two volumes of notes on logic; and elegiac verses: 'In Conjurationem Papisticam' and 'In vigessimum nonum diem Maiae'.

A draft translation of Buchedd Gruffudd ap Cynan, with corrections and additions in the autograph of Thomas ap William, Trefriw. Also included in the manuscript are some Latin hexameters; an order in pursuance of a warrant under the Royal sign manual for the payment of a quarter's annuity of £100 to Diana Hotham or her assigns, 28 October 1806; and memoranda concerning the manuscript.

Miscellaneous poems in various hands including poems entitled 'A Christmas Chace 1777' (mention of Porkington and Llanarmon), 'The Cheshire Grand Jury's Address to Sir J[?oseph] J[?eky]ll' [chief justice of Chester, 1697- 1717] (referring to the prosecution of [Henry] Sacheverel[l] in which Jekyll had taken part), 'On the total Eclipse of the Moon, July 3oth 1776', and 'A Mere Sketch for the Amusement of you and yours' (addressed on the dorse to John Lloyd, Esqr., Wickwer near St. Asaph), a Latin epitaph to Jonathan Edwards [principal of Jesus College, Oxford, 1686-1712], and a poem written by Richard Howard [later rector of Denbigh, 1818-1843, and of Llandegfan with Beaumaris, 1826-1843, etc.] at Mold, 10 April 1802 (addressed on the dorse to Miss [ ] Lloyd, Mold).

Papers connected mainly with the activities of David Pennant of Downing, Flintshire, son of Thomas Pennant. They include material relating to affairs in Flintshire and north-east Wales in general and the Holywell district in particular and consist of letters from Henry Chambers, Edward Jones (David Pennants secretary or agent), F. R. Price (Bryn-y-pys), C. Oldfield (Perthyterfyn), Henry Parry (vicar of Llanasa), J. Oldfield, David Edisbury, D. Scott, etc.; drafts and memoranda by David Pennant; papers relating to The Charity for the Relief of the Poor Widows and Orphans of Clergymen who officiated in the diocese of St. Asaph, Flintshire and Denbighshire parliamentary elections and political affairs, parliamentary reform, poor-law relief, soup kitchens, canals, collieries and colliery strikes, public celebrations, the Holywell Loyal Volunteers, church schools, clothing clubs, eisteddfodau, auction sales, the Flintshire Dispensary, the Holywell Annual Vestry, the Holywell Hunt, etc.; a Latin poem; etc.

Notebooks including accounts by Robert Evans, Ty uchaf, Trevriw, of the distribution of The Beauties of Cambria, 1829, Y Gwladgarwr, 1833, etc., lists of subscribers and accounts with William Cathrall; copies of Latin verses by Robert Jones (on the death of David Garrick and the Earl of Chatham [William Pitt the Elder]) and by Joseph Hoare (on the death of Edward Stradling); lists of books; copies of correspondence between Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd') and the Bishops of Bangor and St Asaph concerning a proposal to establish a society for promoting Christian Knowledge in Wales, 1838; agreement for the rent of Ty uchaf, Trefriw, 1855; and miscellaneous notes.

A volume of English verse and translations from Horace, Martial and other Latin poets. A composite volume, 1760-[c. 1764], containing miscellanea mostly in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), including [?a copy of] a letter from Evan Evans, [1761x1766], written at the request of Robert Wynn of Garthewin, Llanfair Talhaiarn, giving a brief survey of Welsh poetry (ff. 3-4); extracts from Lewis Morris's notes on the battle of Argoed Llwyfein (ff. 5-6); 'Canu Urien', with a translation (ff. 7-12); a letter, 26 July 1760, from Will[ia]m Lloyd, Bangor, to [Evan] Evans, at Trefriw, containing a Latin poem (ff. 13-16); Welsh and English poetry, including one work by Evan Evans (ff. 50-78); and an account of a manuscript at Hengwrt (ff. 79-80).

Miscellaneous papers, including 'An Elegiack Dialogue [between 'Passenger' and 'Beaumorice'] dedicated to ye memorye of ... Mr Richard Bulckley [of Baron Hill, died March 1639/40] lately deceased' by 'Geo: Dib' [?George Dibdall], [1640] (pp. 113-128); translations from Horace, Cicero, and Martial; and miscellaneous Latin and English poems, including some by Paul Panton, senior.

English sermons written by 'R. W.', [c. 1620]; medical recipes, in Welsh, 1712; a short Latin treatise on logic; and a Latin stanza with an English translation.

A folio volume, the contents of which consists mainly of transcripts, in a variety of hands, of Welsh verse in strict metre, including 'cywyddau' and 'englynion' by Tho[mas] lloyd Ienga, Cad[wala]dr Thomas, W[illia]m Phillip, Huw Lloyd Cynfel, John Davies, Owain Griffith, Robert Humphrey (y prydydd bach), John Richart, Davydd lloyd llewelyn ap Gruffyth (o fathafarn), Gutto'r Glynn, Davyd Nanmor, Lewis Môn, Theodor (Tydur) Aled, Robin ddu ap sianckin Bledrydd, Hugh Machno, John Phylyp, Gruffyth Phylip, Richard Kynwal, Ievan llwyd, John Owenes, Philip Jo[h]n Philip, Rys Cain, Jo[h]n V[ augha]n (Caergai), David Davies, Edm[wnd] Prys, and D[avi]d Lloyd ap Will[ ia]m. There is also some Welsh verse in free metre by Rowland Vaughan (Caer Gai). Other items include copies of a rental of chief rents issuing to the crown out of the hundred of Ardydwy ywch artro, and out of Isartro [co. Merioneth], 1623, and of a rental of assize rents in the vill of Llanaber [co. Merioneth], 1637; pedigrees of the families of Anwyll [of Park, parish of Llanfrothen, co. Merioneth], Wynn [of Gwydir, co. Caernarvon], and Wynn [of Maesyneuadd, parish of Llandecwyn, co. Merioneth ]; maternal pedigrees of several North Wales families; a copy of 'The message of king Hen[ry] the seventh, as he was on his march to Bosworth field, to John ap Meredith, as it is in Edward Puleston's Bk.'; a memorandum, 1676, by Robert Wynne, of a lease of lands called Moel y Glo to Gruff Owen; and a few lines of English and Latin verse.

A manuscript containing cywyddau brud and other poetry (pp. 7-8, 13-78, 87-94, 101-111, 115-130, 135-136, 154-298), the poets cited including Taliesin, Dafydd Nanmor, Dafydd ab Edmwnd and Siôn Tudur; prophecies of Merlin (pp. 79-86, 112-114, 131-134, 137-140); two imperfect documents of the Bishops of St Asaph and Gloucester, dated 1627 and 1596 (pp. 9, 11); 'Swynion a Meddeginiaetheu'; &c.

A manuscript containing the Welsh Laws, being a transcript of British Museum MS Harleian Titus D. II. Three folios at the beginning and two at the end contain poetry in Welsh and Latin, etc. There are also some items of a corn account.
The general style of the handwriting, which is not all in the same hand, is suggestive of the manuscripts of Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, which were copied partly by him and partly on his behalf.
