Thank you very much for your letter informing me that you have appointed Mr Rumbock Sahib, who is a very able administrator, to take charge of the Koshal Kothi at Azimabad and that he would be leaving in four days and reach here shortly afterwards. As soon as Mr Middleton leaves here Mr Ronbock will act as his substitute. You have also expressed your concern at the inefficient way the revenue is being collected at present and that we should try our best to make it the system that we collect all instalments at a proper time. The appointment of Mr Ranbock is a welcome step and no one has any doubt in his abilities. We will offer him whatever help and advice is needed and which Mr [Samuel] Middleton would approve
As far as the collection of revenue is concerned I can assure you that we work day and night to achieve the best results. The only exception is the province of Shikare, which is lying waste and is uninhabited. We are trying our best to chase the defaulters and hope to receive the defaulted amounts in the near future

The contents of another letter [now missing] from Vazir al-Mamalik, apparently received four days later, were summarised as follows: Maulavi Ghulam Jilani was employed by Khan Sahib Doyad Khan. For some reason he was not considered worthy of companionship and dismissed. He left Basuli and came to Anolah. Here he started spreading rumours among the soldiers that he has been summoned by you and offered employment. As a group of soldiers were coming to meet you with similar intentions he joined them and stayed with them. However, during the night they realized that he had no intention of coming to see you but was secretly in touch with Nawab Qasim Ali Khan informing him that the Company forces were about to enter his districts and create trouble in that area. During the rainy season when the local forces are scattered Qasim Ali Khan is arranging to gather his forces and attack our forces. It is suggested that you inform Qasim Ali Khan about this mischief

The latest report is that after taking my leave from the King on 14 Jumada I, reg. yr. 7, I set out to see the Maharajah Sahib. You have advised me to discuss with him terms and conditions of an agreement between you and him in such a way so that there are not only any differences left between us but also it would promote better relations. I have no other interest in mind except to endeavour for friendship and understanding between you and the Maharajah. As soon as I receive details of your terms and conditions I will pass them on to the Maharajah. Whatever questions and answers you have to put to him it would be better that Major Sahib provides you with a literal English translation. I hope he has conveyed all the information he had received from me
