Roedd Evan Roberts (1877-1977) o Landderfel, sir Feirionnydd, yn awdur a hanesydd lleol. Ganwyd ef yn Llandderfel ar yr 2 Mehefin 1877 yn fab i Peter ac Ann Roberts. Cafodd addysg yn Hen Ysgol y Bwrdd yn Llandderfel cyn mynd i weithio yn ffatri wlân Cefnddwysarn pan yn 14 mlwydd oed. Priododd Ellen Davies (1882-1972) yn 1906 a chawsant ddau blentyn, Eirianwen (1909-1971) a Tegwyn (g. 1911).
Ar ôl i'w iechyd dorri yn 1913 roedd yn gaeth i'w wely am rhai blynyddoedd. Roedd y cyfnod yma yn sbardun i'w ddiddordeb mewn darllen ac ysgrifennu, yn enwedig ar bynciau hanes lleol. Ymddangosodd ei golofn wythnosol 'Ysgubau o Ysgrepan y Lloffwr' ym mhapur newydd Y Seren (Bala) o'r 1920au hyd yr 1950au ac ysgrifennodd erthyglau yn rheolaidd i nifer o gyfnodolion eraill. Roedd hefyd yn darlithio ac yn cystadlu mewn eisteddfodau; cyhoeddwyd dau o'i draethodau eisteddfodol yn y gyfrol Casgliad o Enwau Lleoedd ym Mhlwyf Llandderfel, a'u hystyron ... ynghyda Diwydiannau Coll Plwyf Llandderfel … (Bala; 1928). Yn sgìl ei waith daeth yn gyfaill i nifer o enwogion o Gymru a thu hwnt, yn eu plith John Cowper Powys, Bob Owen, Croesor, Iorwerth Peate a John Redwood Anderson. Bu farw Evan Roberts ym mis Mai 1977, yn 99 mlwydd oed.
