Enillodd bri fel bardd, gan ennill chwe gwobr yn Eisteddfod Lerpwl yn 1900. Cyfrannodd gerddi i amryw gyfnodolyn a chyhoeddodd Caniadau Nathan Wyn (Treherbert, 1881). Ei frawd ieuengaf oedd y Parch. Evan Rees (Dyfed, 1850-1923).
