Two volumes bound in parchment containing a detailed journal by David Pennant, Downing of a tour of France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The recorded tour began at Dover on 5 July 1819 and ended at Brussels on 16 June 1820. At the end of each volume are daily weather observations and other memoranda.

The tour began at Rotterdam and included visits to Scheveringen, Katwig [Katwijk], La Haye [The Hague], Leyden [Leiden], Haarlem, Amsterdam, Broek, Utrecht, Arnheim [Arnhem], Cleves, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, Andernach, Coblenz [Koblenz], St Goar, Bingen, Rhudesheim [Rudesheim], Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden, Francfurt [Frankfurt], Fulda, Eisenach, Gotha, Weimar, Leipsig [Leipzig], Meissen, Dresden, Chemnitz, Reichenbach, Bayreuth, Nuremberg [Nurnberg], Ratisbonne [Ratisbon], Landshut, Munchen (Munich), Augsbourg [Augsburg], Ulm, Stutgard [Stutgart], Carlsruhe [Karlsruhe], Baden Baden, Strasbourg, Sarrebourg, Nancy, St Desier, Rheims, Ch√Ęteau Thierry and Paris. Among the persons mentioned in the text are Lord and Lady Cawdor, Lord Emlyn and Lady Caroline. At the end of the volume are a few pencil illustrations and an index of places (p. 267).

A volume of mounted cuttings from The Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian, 31 August - 28 December, 1861, together with copious manuscript additions and corrections, containing a 'Diary of my second Continental Tour', undertaken by D. J. E. from B[ristol] between 9 June and 4 August, 1860. The tour comprised parts of France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
