Scope and content
Original bundle of papers deriving from lawsuits brought in the High Court of Chancery by Martin de Carbonell and Justina his wife, plaintiffs, against Edward Pryse, Dame Dorothy Pryse and others, and subsequently by Carbonell’s executors, John Bontanden of St Anns, Blackfriars, London, John Guerrier of St Anns, Westminster, and Paul Jodrell of the Inner Temple against Lewis Pryse, 1696-1711. They relate to a claim on the personal estate of Sir Anthony Vandyke that was in the possession of Sir Richard Pryse (whose second wife was Mary, widow of Sir Anthony Vandyke and mother to Justina). The file includes letters to Edward Pryse mainly from Francis Meyricke and Thomas Barneby, 1696-1699; a decretal order of the High Court of Chancery, 1697; a bill of complaint and the answer of Lewis Pryse [1707], mentioning the doubtful validity of the will of Sir Carbery Pryse (d. 1694); and a bill of costs, 1711.
