Scope and content
Two transcripts of the Welsh text of 'Peredur ab Efrawc' [see Mabinogion (1849), I, 235-296], one in the hand of Charlotte Guest, [March 1839] (A3/1), and the other a 'fair copy made by Hughes' (note on wrapper), [April 1839] (A3/2).
According to Guest's journal, 23-27 March 1839 (NLW, Lady Charlotte Guest Manuscripts XI, p. 116), she transcribed for her own use a copy of Peredur lent to her by John Jones (Tegid). On 9 April 1839 (NLW, Lady Charlotte Guest Manuscripts XI, p. 118) she writes: 'I am having another copy made from my transcript of Peredur that I may having [sic] it to translate from while [W.] Rees [Llandovery] prints from mine'. The text was first published in The Mabinogion… Part II: Peredur the Son of Evrawc (London and Llandovery, 1839).
