Three volumes containing 'A History of the Town and County of Caermarthen' by 'Cyfrangwr', i.e., Alcwyn C. Evans. The work was awarded the prize and a gold medal at the National Eisteddfod at Carmarthen, 1867. It is divided into sections with the following headings: Preface; (i) Its ancient and present name and boundaries; (ii) Its rivers, lakes, and mountains; (iii) Its historical summary; [iv] The Town of Caermarthen. Volume III is an Appendix consisting of a genealogy of Sir Thomas Jones, Abermarlais; 'The Gentry of Caermarthenshire living in 1602' ('as given by Geo. Owen'); extracts from documents relating to places in the town and county of Carmarthen; the parliamentary representation of the town and county of Carmarthen; an abstract of a charter of King Henry III to Meredydd ab Rhys, 1257; a rent-roll of the town of Carmarthen, 1575; extracts from Leland's Itinerary; excerpts from the Liber Landavensis and The Book of St. Chad; a chart of the genealogy of the Welsh Princes; transcripts of oaths of the mayor, bailiffs, and constable; a transcript of a 'cywydd' written by Griffith Llwyd ap David ab Einion Lygliw on the trial of Morgan ab Davydd ab Llewelyn of Rhydodin (Edwinsford) in Caio, circa 1390, with an English translation; an English translation of the charter granted by Sir Guy de Brian, kt., to the burgesses of Laugharne (early 14th cent); and an 'Index to the County'.

A volume containing (pp. 1-131) an eighteenth century copy of a Welsh text of the laws of Hywel Dda corresponding to the text of the 'Dimetian' version or that published as Cyfreithiau Hywel Dda yn ôl Llyfr Blegywryd (Dull Dyfed) (Caerdydd, 1942). A note at the end of the text states that it was transcribed by Edward Whittington at the request of the Reverend David Wynne, incumbent of the parish of Machynlleth (1711-1732], and that the task was completed in July 1715 ('Y Llyfr hwn ar archiad y parched[i]g wr Mr. Dafudd Wynne, sef person plwy Machynlleth, a ysgrifenwyd gen Edward Whittington, ag y dibenwyd y 26 dudd o fis Gorphenaf yn y flwyddyn 1715 ynghylch 775 o flynyddoedd ar ol gwneuthur y y [sic] gyfreith hon'). Pages 137-75, which are possibly in the hand of the Reverend David Wynne himself, contain miscellaneous historical and genealogical notes relating to Dyfnwal Moelmud ('Gosodedigaeth Dyfnwal'), the hundreds and commotes of Wales ('Llyma y modd y Rannwyd Cantrefoedd a Chymydau holl Gymru yn amser y Tywysogion diwaethaf or Brutaniaid nid amgen Gr[uffudd] ap Ll[ywely]n a Ll[ywely]n ap Gr[uffydd]'), the princes of Wales ('Notes . . . taken out of a Coppy of Record had in the Tower of London. De Principibus Walliae Notae breviter desumptae'), the lordship of Oswestry ('Llyma ddangos y modd yr aeth Arglwyddiaeth Groes Oswallt oddiwrth y Cymry'), and the fifteen tribes of North Wales, these last having been extracted from the book of Lewis Dwnn ('Allan o Lyfr Lewis Dwnn Deputy Herald at Arms dros holl Gymru dam Glarencieux a Norroy . . .').

A volume described on the title page as 'The Heraldic Arms of the Welsh Princes Compiled by N[icholas] Bennett, Glanyrafon [Trefeglwys, co. Montgomery]. Copied & Emblazoned by his Nephew Breese Bennett Owen at Glanyrafon during . . . 1876'. The work is in the form of a biographical dictionary of eminent Welshmen from the earliest times to the nineteenth century, with, whenever ascertainable, descriptions and copies (emblazoned) of their coats of arms. Included as insets are a holograph letter from J[ ohn] Deffett Francis, Swansea, to Captain Thomas [of Swansea, 18]78, thanking the recipient for the opportunity to peruse the manuscript; and a family pedigree tracing the descent from the Bennett family of Glanyrafon of Mrs. E. I. Wynne-Jones of Rudgwick, Sussex, who donated the volume to the National Library. A list of manuscripts and books consulted in compiling the work is given at the beginning.
