The Tyglyn estate was inherited by the Davies family following a law suit after the death without issue of Alban Thomas John Gwynne in 1819. The estate came into the hands of Captain Alban Thomas Davies, who returned from service in India in the 1840s. He married Ann, daughter of Colonel William Wilson. They were succeeded by their eldest son, Alban Thomas Davies the younger (d. 1870). The estate then passed to his brother, William John Davies (b. 1832) who married Florence A. Gadsden in 1863. Their heir was Frank Gadsden Davies.
