The University Appointments Board was originally called the Appointments Board for Wales when it was established in 1912 for an initial period of five years. The work of the Board was mainly that of seeking appointments and distributing information respecting appointments which could appropriately be filled by members of the University and pupils of Welsh secondary schools, and of providing means of communications between candidates and employment opportunities and the persons or bodies making those appointments. The work of the original Board was transferred to the University Appointments Board in 1921. Over time, the Board has become more concerned with graduate, as opposed to school pupils, employment and opportunities in Wales.
