Anglo-Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas was born in the Uplands area of Swansea. His works include the poems 'Do not go gentle into that good night', 'And death shall have no dominion' and 'Fern Hill', as well as the radio 'play for voices' Under Milk Wood. Painter, printmaker, maker of reliefs and lecturer Ceri Richards was born in Dyfnant, near Swansea and studied at Swansea College of Technology, Swansea School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. His work gradually moved towards Surrealism after exposure to the work of Picasso and Kandinsky. He was also a talented musician, and music is a theme for much of his artwork.
