In some instances notes have been written on the blank dorse or margins of a printed leaflet, 1798, proclaiming that an invitation had been extended, 1797, to bards to repair to Primrose Hill, London, Tyle y Gawl, Glamorgan, and Caerwys [co. Flint], for bardic meetings; printed proposals for publishing Edward Williams's two volumes of English verse Poems Lyric and Pastoral in 1792; a ? holograph note from Mr. Dunn from St. Athans, to Mr. [Edward] Williams re the erection of a monument (in third person); a printed leaflet advertising 'New Music written and composed by John Parry' which was for sale; a printed leaflet advertising the sale by auction at Newton Nottage, Glamorganshire, September 1813, of the 'materials of the sloop Friends'; a ? holograph letter from J[ohn] Hughes from Brecon, to Mr. Edwd. Williams, Merthyr Tydfil [circa 1822], relating to the writer's Essay [?Essay on the Ancient and Present State of the Welsh Language, 1822] being prepared for publication (the letter is endorsed with a note in the hand of Edward Williams stating that 'Mr. Job James the Printer of this work' was unable to complete the printing of the said work as soon as had been hoped owing to certain difficulties including the fact that his office' was not furnished with some types and characters that were found necessary' and that 'the ordering and waiting for them' had caused delay; this note does not refer to John Hughes's Essay but, in all probability, to Edward Williams's own work Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain, publication of which was held up for the reasons specified in the note ('o eisiau digon o lythyrennau argraph'; see the introduction to the work)); a ? holograph, undated note from B. The file comprises a letter from George Grant Francis, mayor of Swansea and founder of the Royal Institution of South Wales, to Mr D. Williams, 1844, asking for the first volume of the Cambrian Register for research purposes; a letter from S. Frydberg, 1946, Russian violinist, to O. Llew Owain, introducing himself and telling him of a scheme to establish a National Academy of Music in Cardiff, and offering his assistance in the project before he leaves for America; letters, 1888-1925, from the English tenor Edward Lloyd; a short, undated letter, apparently from the Welsh instrumentalist and composer, John Parry; a letter from the musician Brinley Richards, [19 cent., last quarter]; and a letter from Sir Michael Tippett, 1966, to the English pianist John Ogdon, relating to Priaulx Rainier's 'Barbaric Dances' and to a performance of 'St Augustine' in Berlin.

A bound volume labelled 'Eisteddfod Proceddings', compiled by William Jenkins Rees (1772-1855), rector of Cascob, Radnorshire, and consisting largely of printed notices addressed to him by Cambrian Societies in Wales and in London. The contents include a notice of an eisteddfod under the auspices of the Gwyneddigion Society at Caerwys, 1798, together with Gosodaethau a Rheolau Cymdeithas y Gwyneddigion and other material relating to the Society; a draft consitution of the Cambrian Society in the hand of W. J. A volume lettered 'Detholion', containing printed matter and press cuttings mainly relating to Welsh eisteddfodau. The printed matter includes an announcement, 1849, of the sale of building land on the Gloddaeth estate of the Hon. E. M. L. Mostyn, M.P.; correspondence, 1836, between the Reverend D. James, Kirkdale, Liverpool, and Arthur James Johnes, Garthmyl, concerning a resolution of thanks by the Liverpool Society of Ancient Britons to Arthur James Johnes 'for his laudable attempt to remove the abuses which have crept into the established church in Wales through the appointment of English bishops and English incumbents ...'; a prospectus of an eisteddfod to be held at Liverpool on 1 March, 1838, under the auspices of the Liverpool Society of Ancient Britons; an appeal by the London Society of Ancient Britons for subscriptions to a fund for the delivering of lectures in Welsh on scientific subjects and for the translation into Welsh of scientific treatises, etc.; minutes of proceedings of the Liverpool Gordovigion Royal Eisteddfod, 1840; etc. The majority of the press cuttings are from The Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald, The North Wales Chronicle, The Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian, and The Merthyr Chronicle, and include a report on the Beaumaris Royal Eisteddfod, 1832; a letter, 1837, by John Parry ('Bardd Alaw'); a report of a meeting of the Wrexham Literary Association [1859]; letters of John Jones ('Talhaiarn') and others relating to the failure of the London Eisteddfod of 1855; a report of a concert given by the Liverpool Welsh Choral Society [1849]; letters relating to criticisms of adjudications at the Cardiff Athenaeum eisteddfod, 1851; poetry; songs; etc.

A collection of hymn-tunes made c. 1850; a short hymnal of the same period; several orchestral sketches by D. Emlyn Evans; an index to printed collections of Welsh tunes to 1893; extracts from 'Bardd Alaw''s collection; and hymn-tunes composed by D. Emlyn Evans.

'Welsh Tunes sent [by John Jenkins] to Mr. [John] Parry January 28th 1826 and the words adapted to them; with some observations on both'; a list, by John Jenkins, of 'Welsh Tunes wanted to which appropriate Words are found'; and 'Remarks on certain Welsh Tunes which are to be transcribed into ... A 'poetical' exercise book of W. J. Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') largely containing annotated transcripts of 'englynion' and other verses of the period 1820-1830 by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'), William Jones ('Gwilym Cawrdaf'), Rowland Parry ('Ieuan Carn Dochan'), [William Williams] ('Gwilym Cyfeiliog'), Henry Griffith ('Hare Goch o Wynedd'), and Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'). The collection is based on information received from Mary Richards ('Mair Risiart'), Darowen Vicarage, and contains copious extracts from 'Y Begeryn', being a manuscript in her possession containing impromptu verses by visiting poets, etc. The volume also contains transcripts of two letters, the one from J[ohn] Parry ['Bardd Alaw'] to the Reverend T[homas] Richards, Aberrhiw, 1822 (the success of Evan Evans ['Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'] as candidate for North Wales for a medal), and the other from Evan Evans ['Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'] to the Reverend T[homas] Richards, Caerwys [1816] (the recipient's promotion to the living of Caerwys, etc.); a list of books bought of the administrator of W[illiam] L[ewis] Walker [rector of Trefriw], 1863; and poetry by 'Gwilym Cowlyd' partly described as 'Y Ffetan Ysmaldod'.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. A volume of songs from comic operas and pantomimes by early nineteenth century composers and sung by John Pritt Harley. The songs include 'A Trip to Wales' and 'Dorothy Claw' by John Parry.
