Copies made between 1661 and 1663 by William Maurice of Llansilin of the Historia Britonum of Nennius, including Eulogium Britanniae Insulae Capitula, etc., with collations from several manuscripts; the Latin version of the Laws of Hywel Dda apparently copied from Peniarth MS 28; George Carleton's letter to William Camden; the prologue of Robert of Torigni; the letter of Henry of Huntingdon to Guerin le Breton; and Alfred of Beverly's Historia de gestis regalibus regum brittanie apparently copied from Peniarth MS 384. The following note in the autograph of William Maurice occurs at the end of the text in Peniarth MS 384: 'Totum transcripsi fideliter Ego Guil. Mauricius Lansilinensis. Anno Dni 1663. Laus Deo'.

Penty Park pedigree book

  • NLW MS 22386B
  • File
  • [c. 1663]

A volume of pedigrees in Welsh and English, evidently compiled in Carmarthenshire about 1663 (see f. 193). The collection is poorly organised. Carmarthenshire families predominate; Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire are well represented; some pedigrees for other parts of Wales. Mostly based on earlier sources, many on the pattern of achau'r mamau and in Welsh, many coming down to the years 1625-1628. Sources named are 'John Moythe's book' (ff. 117-124 passim) and 'Thomas Johnes of Fountaine Gate' (f. 120 verso). Folios 1-22 contain world chronology, biblical and royal lines, down to Charles II. Additions, mostly of Carmarthenshire interest, by several hands of XVII and XVIII cent., notably by an annotator active in 1706 and, it appears, by John Jones of Pant-glas (fl. 1706-1744) (see ff. 26 verso, 45 versoi, 184, 193).

Edward Pryse and Dame Dorothy Pryse vs Sir Hugh Middleton, Sir Carbery Pryse and others : debt

Papers deriving from a case brought before the High Court of Chancery in 1683 by Edward Pryse and Dame Dorothy Pryse, executors of Sir Thomas Pryse, plaintiffs, against Sir Hugh Middleton, Sir Carbery Pryse, infant (per John Herbert his guardian) and William Wogan, defendants, concerning the refusal of Sir Hugh Middleton to pay a sum due upon a recognizance for the payment of £2100 acknowledged in 1639 by Sir William Middleton to Sir Richard Pryse (d. 1651), which recognizance descended to Sir Richard Pryse the younger and thence to Sir Thomas Pryse, and the refusal of William Wogan to honour a former agreement by Sir Hugh Middelton for payment to Sir Thomas Pryse, claiming that £2000 was due to Sir Carbery Pryse as nephew and heir of Sir Thoms Pryse. The file contains the bill of complaint, a copy bill and breviat, 1683, together with the renunciation by Dame Elizabeth Pryse of the administration of the goods of her late husband, Sir Richard Pryse, 1675, breviat of a bill by Edward and Dame Dorothy Pryse against John Herbert and Dame Elizabeth Pryse, his now wife, defendants, 1682, and other papers relevamt to the case, 1661-1682.

Evan Vaughan account book.

An account book of rents received and paid for leases granted and taken by Evan Vaughan, money borrowed and lent, allowances to his wife and son, and sundry payments, 1662-1687. It is probable that this Evan Vaughan is the same person as he who was nominated capital bailiff of Llanfyllin in the new charter granted by Charles II in 1673. From this account book it appears that he died in 1685, when new hands appear, and Elin Vaughan is described as a widow.
