Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn (misc. properties)

Title deeds of houses and lands in the parish and/or commote of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1541-1576. Boundary clauses mention yr Ynys Wen, Ffos y Bryngoley, the highway to Machynlleth, Ryd yr One, Nant yr Ywrch, Bwlch y Vagwyr and Llidiart Pant Gwin. The deeds record the purchase of Tythyn y Darren and Nant y Bwla by Richard ap Res ap D'd Lloid, 1541; and the acquisition by John Pryse of Gogerddan, of Melin Rhewel, Y Gilvaghe Wen, Mynydd Gorthyn, Nant y Twrch, Llain yr Odyn, Tythyn Aber y Ddwy Avon, 1564-1573. The file also contains the pre-nuptial settlement of Gruffith ap Ieuan and Dythgy vch Owen, 1556, and a subsequent bond mentioning Tir Ryw Diabod, 1572/3.

Original bundle comprising a quitclaim of land called Gwern Ladron by John Lewys, son and heir of Lewys ap Moris of Aberystwyth, to Davit ap John alias David Saer, 1545, and a gift to William David ap John, otherwise William David Saer, with further quitclaim and bond, 1577.

Mortgages of Dolgioch, Morben, Allt y Riw and Kae Ieuan

A defeasance of a mortgage made by John ap Hugh ap Ieuan of Machynlleth and Rowland ap Hughe to Richard Purcell of Dynthill, Salop, on Dolgioch and Morben in the parishes of Machynlleth and Penegoes, 1569; and a bond by Rowland Pughe, then of Gartheiniog, to Richard Mores, to accompany a mortgage (missing) of Allt y Riw and Kae Ieuan in Blaenglesyrch, [Llanwrin], 1580

The Crown vs the inhabitants of Aberystwyth concerning Our Lady’s Mill

Papers relating to a cause in the Court of Exchequer, heard at Hereford Assizes, between the Crown and the inhabitants of the town of Aberystwyth, over the title to a water mill called Our Ladyes Mill, comprising an inspeximus, 1574, of proceedings in 1554; a commission to administer interrogatories to witnesses, with the interrogatories annexed, 1574; and a further inspeximaus, 1582, of another commission in 1581 and depositions concerning the building of Our Ladyes Church and Our Ladies Mill, the services held in the former, how the rents and profits of the mill were employed for the maintenance of the church until the dissolution of the chantries in 1547, and payments to the stipendary clerics of Aberystwyth.

Cynnull Mawr (Bwlch y Thyallt, Esgair Argoed, etc.)

Title deeds of messuages and land called Bwlch y Thyallt, Esgair Argoed, Gwayn y Gwythyl and Pen y Byarth in the township of Cynnull Mawr, mortgaged by Hughe ap William ap Llenn' ap Rees 1577, and conveyed to John Pryse of Gogerddan by [nephews] of the mortgagee, 1582/3; and a gift by Margaret vch Lewis of Llanilar to John Pryse, of Tythen Esger Argoed, 1581.

Inquisition post-mortem John Pryse [of Gogerddan], died 5 May 1584, stating that he was possessed of the manor of Pennardd and Caron, the mills and castle of Aberystwyth, parts of the manors of Genau’r-glyn and Cyfoethybrenin, properties in Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, the manor and parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, and Llanilar, and the grange of Nant Rarian (Nant yr Arian), 1585

A family settlement by Morgan ap David Lloid [ap Morgan Vaughan] of Ystrad, of Tythin Llysvaen, a water corn mill, Tythin Pen Glan Vawr, etc., Tythin Dol Vridi in Llanwnnen and Ystrad, Cardiganshire, 1586.

Cynnull Mawr (Tythyn Lle y Kynghordy in Esgern Argoed)

Title deeds of Tythyn Lle y Kynghordy in Esgern Argoed in the township of Cynnull Mawr, 1549-1586. They comprise a mortgage of the property by Lewis ap David Vain, together with a piece of land called Llayn Penvain, to Morice ap Ieuan Dio Goch, 1549; a defeasance of mortgage and bond between sons of the mortgagee for the surrender of Clwd Crach, 1584; and a bond to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan for peaceful possession until redemption of the mortgage, 1586.

Copy of an order of the Court of the Council in the Marches of Wales in a case between David Thomas, Margaret vch Thomas his wife, Morgan Herbert and Jane vch Morgan, (wife of Morgan Jenkin) plaintiffs, and Evan Lloyd ap Lewies, Evan Phyllipp, David Harry and others, concerning premises called Tythyn Ffynnon Baskett, Tir Res ap Dio ap Hullyn and Tythyn y Vagwyr Vagh in the parish of Landdeiniol, Cardiganshire, 1587.

Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn deeds

Title deeds relating to the parish of Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, comprising a bond by Phylipp William of Aberystwyth, permitting his guardians to occupy Tythyn Creor Tuder Lloid, 1544; a bond to Morgan D'd Lloid of Llanbadarn Fawr for the surrender of a lease on Ye Lluest ye Bystle Ddy, 1578; and the will of David Ychan ap D'd, made in 1588/9, devising Rhiwarthen in Llanbadarn Fawr, Nant Kynon in Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, and his interest in Gilwern, proved 1590, with inventory.

A gift in frank almoign by Brother Hugh of St Asaph to the Hospital of Jerusalem in Carno, of part of the benefice of the parish church of Tregynon, which he had from Meyler Kryc, and the remaining part as shall become vacant for Christ’s poor in the said house of Carno, witnessed by Richard, dean of St Asaph, and others, 1238; leases by Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, of Tythin Y Llyest Dduy and Tythin Howell Bedo Kethin, in the township of Derlwyn, Carno, 1584-1586; and a bond by Ievan ap Henry of Carno to Richard Pryse, 1590

Ceulan a Maes-mawr and Henllys (Tythynne Tal y Bont and Tythyn Bach ar Geven Henllys)

Title deeds of Tythynne Tal y Bont and Tythyn Bach ar Geven Henllys in the townships of Ceulan a Maes-mawr and Henllys in the parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1579-1591. They comprise a mortgage by Maurice ap John ap Morice to Owen, 1579, followed by an assignment by the mortgagee, Owen ap Jenkin ap Ieuan ap Dio, to Owen ap Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1584/5; and a
deed by Lewes ap Owen of Machynlleth and Ellen his wife declaring uses of a fine to Richard Pryse, 1591.

Dyffryn Clarach (Tythyn y Rhiwel)

Title deeds of a messuage called Tythyn y Rhiwel in Dyffryn Clarach in the parcel of Cyfoethybrenin, 1584-1592. They comprise a deed of sale by Humphrey ap Mores ap Ieuan Lloyd of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn to Owen ap Jenkin ap Ieuan ap Deio of Llangynfelyn, 1584, and a sale by the latter to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1584/5; with a subsequent quitclaim by Helen vch John ap Ieuan of Tywyn, Merioneth, widow of Humphrey ap Morice ap Ieuan Lloid, 1592.

Melindwr

Title deeds relating to properties in Dyffryn Melindwr in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, comprising a mortgage by Ieuan ap M'redd ap D'd ap Re’th to Elysabeth vch John ap Res of the water mill on the river Melindwr in the commote of Perfedd, with a condition for its repair, 1490; and deeds for the purchases of Tythyn Nant y Dynas by John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1573, and of Llyest y Gors Velen by Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1594

Llanllwchaearn

Mainly bonds relating to conveyances (missing) of houses and lands in the townships of Cilcowen and Llanmerewig in the parish of Llanllwchaearn, 1566-1595. The parties include David ap John Richard and Rees ap Moris ap Owen, 1566; Ieuan ap Ednyved and James ap Richard ap John ap M’edd, 1578/9; and Edward ap Mathewe ap Ieuan Goch and Richard ap Thomas to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, for the conveyance of Tuy yn Veilied and lands (named), and further parcels of land in Maes y Merbull, Maes y Dderwen Vawr and Maes Ucha, Errow Yollen, Gweirgloth Vablie, 1595. The file also contains a lease by Edward Pryse of Aberbechan to his brother, Richard, of the rectory of Llanllwchaearn, lately belonging to the dissolved monastery of Llanllugan, and the tithes, 1578.

Creuddyn, Genau’r-glyn, Dyffryn Clarach and Caeo deed

Bargain and sale by Robert [Devereux], earl of Essex, Gelly Meyrick and Henry Lyndley, both of London, to Reginald Nicholas of Prestbury, Gloucestershire, and John Meyrick of Llangwm, Pembrokeshire, of properties in the commote of Creuddyn, Tythen and other properties in Genau’r-glyn and Dyffryn Clarach, which were late the possession of Rees Griffith, esq., attainted, and granted by letters patent in 1570/1, to Henry Radcliff, and a moiety of a mill called Kilinden, otherwise Kilmeharen, in Caeo, Carmarthenshire, lately belonging to the dissolved monastery of Talley, all of which premises were, with others, bargained and sold by letters patent to Gelly Meyrick and Henry Lyndley in 1595.
