Llanbadarn Fawr (misc. properties)

Title deeds of houses and lands in the village and parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1571-1598. The properties include Tythyn Penydarren, purchased by John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1571; Tythyn Nant y Keyr and Tythyn y Keunant, in a family settlement of Edward ap John ap Ieuan Goch, 1571; Tythyn Aber Mynydd, 1581; Tythen Glann Tyenn, Tythyn Cwme Rydole, Tythen Bwa Drain, Tythen Pant Gwyn, Tythen Bryn Bras and Tythen Gelli Lechog, Llyest Nant Goredyn and Aber Hirnant, previously belonging to Gruffith ap Lle'n Vayne lately attainted for high treason, and assigned to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1582; Llettyr Cawsty, Tyddyn Savodryn and Ystlys y Gors Velen, comprised in a family settlement of Watkyn Thomas, 1583/4; Tir David Lloyd ap Mer'edd, 1584; Tythin Bwlch y Brynar, 1589; Tuy Pant yr Hwch, 1592/3; Tythin Ieuan ap Howell ap Rees in Parsel Canol, in a fine levied to Richard Pryse in 1593; and Y Llyast Yn Y Vyghes Gay, 1596/7. Further documents include a bond for payment of a future widow’s annuity to Elen vch Richard wife of Watkin Thomas, out of Kefen Llwydiarth, Krugge Bran, Allt Fadog, etc. 1577; the wills of Lewes ap David of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1582/3, and David Lloyd ap Griffith ap Hoe'll, 1591; and marriage settlements of Edward ap Ieuan James and Marie vch Morys, 1585, and of Ievan ap Edward the younger, son of Edward ap John ap Moris, and Jonet vch Jenkyn Vaughan ap Ieuan Gytto Gwallter, 1590.

Dyffryn Clarach (Gwyrglodd Robin)

Title deeds of a meadow called Gwyrglodd Robin in Dyffryn Clarach in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1571-1603. They comprise mortgages of parts of the meadow by Richard Phillipps of Aberystwyth to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1571, Richard Pryse, 1584, and Meredith David Lloid of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1597, followed by a sale by Richard Phillipps and his son Henry to Richard Pryse, 1602/3, with related bonds. There is also an assignment by Thomas Pryse of Glanfred, another mortgagee, to Richard Pryse, 1602.

A manuscript containing holograph cywyddau by Wiliam Cynwal written between 1572 (f. 6) and his death in 1588. The poems are accompanied by illustrations of their subjects' coats of arms.

Title deeds of houses and lands in the parish of Mallwyd, 1572-1636. Properties include Ffrith Pennanttigie, demised by Rowland ap John ap Hugh of Mathafarn to Robert Wyn, 1572; hereditary lands of Ieuan ap Mores ap Ieuan ap Gutton in Cerist, Aber y Trowsnant, Maes y Trowsnant, Lletty Tuder, Tir yr Havod Vawr, etc., Tythyn in Eskerinbull and Tythin y Braigh, all in Gartheiniog, acquired by Rowland Pughe, 1573-1575; and Lle Tu Ieuan ?Syn, a mill and other properties in Gartheiniog, granted by Richard Mitton in fee farm to Francis Pughe of Tal-y-llyn (boundary clauses include Morva Ryd yr Aber, Ryd y Modoyle, Braigh Llwyndu, Blaney Clawdd, Ffrith Newedd, Llaethnant, the river Dyfi (Dovey), Creiglyn Dovey, the Ffynnant brook, Pennant Bigham, the mountain called Yr Arran, etc., 1598/9. There is also a bond to accompany a deed (missing) to William Pughe of Llwydiarth, 1635/6.

Ceulan a Maes-mawr (Tythen Trefgoed, Tythen Pant Y Ty Hen, Tythen Y Gelli Gryne, etc.)

Title deeds for Tythen Trefgoed, Tythen Pant Y Ty Hen, Tythen Y Gelli Gryne, Melin Gaylan, and Y Neyadd in the township of Ceulan a Maes-mawr, and Tythin Aber y Ddwy Afon in Tal-y-bont, 1572-1604. Some deeds refer to the place name Kaylan Ffose Vydyr. The deeds include a family settlement of David Lloyd ap Meredd' [of Llanbadarn Fawr] and Jaen (sic) his wife, 1572; a gift [?trust/?mortgage] by David Lloyd ap Mredd, of Tythyn Karreg Drefgoed and half of Y Gelli Grin to Mredeth ap H'oll ap Rees of Llanwrin, Montgomeryshire, and Thomas ap John Lloyd of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1580; a lease of Melin Gaylan by Jane vch Morice, and David ap D'd Lloyd ap Mer'dd, to Hugh ap John Lloyd of Prysgage, 1587, with an assignment to Richard Pryse, 1588; and deeds for the sale by David Lloyd ap David, Mredith Lloyd ap David Lloyd, Mredith ap Howell ap Res and Thomas ap John Lloid of all the properties to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1588-1600. Associated documents include several quitclaims, and a bond to indemnify Sir Richard Pryse, stating that the properties had been seized into the Queen's hands for the debt of David Lloyd ap Mer'edd, deceased, late sheriff of Cardiganshire, 1604.

Ceulan a Maes-mawr (Keven Eyrglodd, Keven Kynvryn, Blaen y Klettwr and Moel y Llyn)

Title deeds relating to Keven Eyrglodd, Keven Kynvryn, Blaen y Klettwr and Moel y Llyn in the township of Ceulan a Maes-mawr and parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1573-1607. A quitclaim and bond indicate that parts of the properties were conveyed by Ieuan ap Lle'nn ap Jenkin to Helen and Mawd, daughters of Morgan ap Lle'nn ap Jenkin deceased, and their husbands, 1573. There is a subsequent bond by Mores ap Gruff' ap Rees, husband of Mawd vch Morgan, assuring a third part of the properties to Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1585; deeds for the sale of further parts of Keven Kynvryn to Jenkin D'd ap Gruffith, 1586, followed by his sale to Richard Pryse, 1592; a lease of Tythen Keven Kynfryn by Rees ap Owen and Ellen vch Ieuan Lloyd to the latter’s son, John David ap Ieuan ap Harry, 1607; and a memorandum of an agreement by David Morgan of Glanvread for the lease of Eurglawdd, 1782.

Llyfr lloffion Richard Mostyn

A composite manuscript in several hands comprising poetry; proverbs; proverbial triads; etc.; part of the text seems to be in the hand of Richard Mostyn and to have been written in 1574. The whole might be Mostyn's common-place book, in which others occasionally wrote during his life and afterwards.
