A manuscript in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen containing transcripts of poetry in both strict and free metres, especially 'cywyddau' and 'englynion', by Edward Urien, Gutto'r Glyn, Gruff. Llwyd ap D'd ap Einion, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Griffyth Owen, William Philip, Doctor Sion Kent, Robert Leia, Iolo Coch, Sion Brwynog, Meilyr Brydydd, Gwalchmai ap Meilyr, Hugh Morris, Ieuan Tudur Owen, William Llyn, Owen Gwynedd, Iefan Brydydd Hir, Davidd Nanmor, Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kollwyd [recte Cae Llwyd], Mr. Edmwnd Pris, Sion Cerri, S[y]r Owen ap Gwilim, Hugh Arwystl, D. Rowlands (Carno), Robin Du o Fon, David Wood (Darowen) and Elizabeth David Ellis ('o fowddwy'), and anonymous poems. The volume also contains personal memoranda by the scribe; an incomplete list of contents; an account of a joint dinner by the Gwyneddigion and Cymreigyddion Societies at Highbury to celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Wales, 1812; 'Principal Points of Religion' and extracts from a letter from Dafydd Evan to [ ... Wynn], undated (thoughts on religion, references to Wynn family and William Vaughan). The volume was begun about the year 1808 and completed in 1849, but the personal memoranda have been continued to 1875. Seven of the 'cywyddau' are said to have been transcribed from 'llyfr maesglase' and one 'englyn' from 'hen lyfyr Cadwaladr David'.

A volume almost entirely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen largely containing poetry ('cywyddau', 'englynion', etc.) by Rowland Williams, Sion Philip, Guttun Owen, William Philip, Dr John Kent, Dafydd ap E[dmwnt], Edmwnt Prys, Robin Ddu o Fon, James Dwnid [recte Dwnn], Thom. Williams (1817), Iolo Goch, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Taliesin, Davydd ap Gwilim, Huw Arwystl, Hugh Morris, Edward Morris, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], [David Richards, 'Dewi Silin'], Robert Parry (Eglwys fach), David Rowlands (Plas Isa, Dolgelley), Rev. D. Davies (Castle Caereinion), John Parry, Robert Davies (Nantglyn) and Hu ap Ier. ap Robert, and anonymous poems. Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').

A volume originally used by Thomas Richards, Darowen to record the rules of Darowen Church Sunday School ('Rheolau perthynol i Ysgol Sabbothol Eglwys Darowen') [1824]. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are 'Cadwaen Iachawdwriaeth', a list of subscribers (among them Thomas Richards) to Welsh Bibles, and 'Crefyddau', being statistics of religious membership of European countries. A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. Lathrob .... 1745). Bound in at the end of the volume is a transcript by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of 'Englynion o waith [William Roberts] Clochydd Llannor i'r gau athrawon neu'r pregethwyr sydd yn y Bala yn pregethu ag mewn llawer o fanne eraill' (cf Cwrtmawr MS 226, 28-31). There are some notes by J. H. Davies on the flyleaf.

A folder containing eight files of original letters and copies of letters and poetry from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. Files 1-3: Transcripts of letters by Lewis and Richard Morris, mainly to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd') and Dafydd Jones of Trefriw, almost all published in Hugh Owen (ed.), Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, 1947-9, the remainder published in G. J. Williams (gol.) Llythyrau at Ddafydd Jones o Drefriw. Cylchgrawn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru. Atodiad. Cyfres III, Rhif 2 (1942), and J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Mon) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9). The original letters or copies from which these copies were transcribed are in the British Museum (Add MSS 14929, 15021, 15024, 15029) and the National Library of Wales (mainly Panton 74 and NLW MS 476). There is also a transcript of a letter from the Reverend Thomas Ellis, Holyhead to the Reverend Humphrey Owen and the Reverend J. There are also copies of two short letters to Evan Evans from Roderick Lewis, Trefeglwys, and William Howell, Llanidloes, which were written on the same sheet as Edward Richard's letter of 1 March 1766. The original letters are preserved in NLW MS Panton 74. A transcript of a letter from Edward Richard, 1766, to Richard Morris (from BM Add MS 15025), and extracts from letters from Edward Richard to Lewis Morris, 1759 and undated (from BM Add MS 15029). A holograph letter from Edward Richard, Ystradmeuryg, 1762, to Lewis Morris, Penbryn (published in Hugh Owen, op. cit. Part II, pp. 562-3). File 5: A holograph letter from [the Reverend] W[illiam] Davies, Llanwryn [Montgomeryshire], 1710, to Henry Newman at the Reverend Mr Shute's in Bartlet's Buildings, London (receipt of letter and a packet from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, subscriptions from other parishes, has partly prevailed with a certain minister to become a corresponding member). The letter bears the number 2381 (see Mary Clement (ed.), Correspondence and minutes of the S.P.C.K. relating to Wales 1699-1740 (Cardiff, 1952), p. 35. Abstract No. 2381). The letters are addressed to John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'), Pwllheli (4), 1791-1806 (corrections to addressee's poetry, tributes to writer's brother, Humphrey, after his death, some short poetical compositions by the writer), to Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris'), Llandygai (8), 1799-1819, (poetry, subjects upon which writer desired addressee to compose hymns, meetings of bards and eisteddfodau, comments and news of contemporary poets, writer's health and work), and one letter, addressee not named, 1804, (addressee's poetry which writer had received, desires addressee to render 2 Samuel XXII in strict metres and to ask other poets to do the same). The poetry includes verses entitled 'Y Cynauaf mawr diweddaf' subscribed 'D. T. a'i cant allan o'r Saesneg ar ddymuniad John Jones Llandwrog Medi 10d 1804 (cf. Dafydd Thomas (Dafydd Ddû Eryri), Corph y Gaingc (Caernarfon, 1834), pp. 323-4), and 'Englynion newyddion i Long newydd o Gaernarfon yr hon a elwir Valiant'. Several of the poems are anonymous, and some are written on the dorse of an undated letter (mid eighteenth century) from Robt. Anwyl, Hengae, to his uncle Robert Vaughan, Dolymelynllyn (wages requested by an employee, news from Guilsfield) and on the dorse of address leaves of letters to Margaret Davies at Goedtref [Llanelltyd, Merioneth], at Plâstanyfynwent, Dolgelley, at Plas Tan y Bwlch, and at Berthlwyd, near Dolgelley; also bound in the volume (pp. 249-74) are printed 'carolau' and 'cerddi' by John Rhydderch, Huw Morys, Thomas Edwart ['Twm o'r Nant'], Morus Robert, Dafydd Thomas, and Gruffudd Edward ('o Lan-Silin').

There are imperfect lists of contents at the beginning of each part. Bound in at the end of the volume, also in the hand of Owen Williams, are 'englynion' ('I'r Iesu', etc.) transcribed in 1853 from a manuscript (1655) of William Salesbury of Bachymbyd; two versions of an address on 'Helynt y Cymry, eu hiaith a'u defodau, etc.' delivered at Eisteddfod Tywyn, Tre Fadog, and prepared for publication in the Carnarvon Herald; and a biography of Richard Jones ('Gwyndaf Eryri'; 1785-1848). The volume is lettered on the spine in gold: 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

Two volumes entitled 'Llyfr o Hen Ganeuon wedi eu cyfansoddi ers 200 mlynedd. 1900'. The volumes are in the hand of J. H. Davies and contain transcripts, with annotations and collations, of 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'dyrïau', 'englynion' and 'awdlau' from the Welsh School and Cymmrodorion groups of manuscripts in the British Museum Additional Collection (MSS 14866-15089). Lewis of University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.
