A small account-book containing a transcript of manuscript autobiographical material of Richard Robert Jones ('Dic Aberdaron')(cf. NLW Deposit 324A). Loose in the volume is a note from John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), Chwilog to a Mr Davies enquiring about its price as everything relating to 'Dic Aberdaron' is valuable to him. At the reverse end are notes by D[avi]d Davies [cf. Cwrtmawr MS 519], who may be the transcriber of the Dic Aberdaron material. There are also some verses said to be by Josiah Hughes, Trefynon [sic] and John Elias, Môn written in another hand and pasted into the volume.

Memoirs [1970s] in Welsh of Kate Davies, tracing her family history and describing the Cletwr valley in south Cardiganshire, its colourful characters and their traditional agricultural way of life during the first half of the twentieth century. Also included are poems by her father, Daniel Thomas (1866-1942). Miscellaneous items, found loose inside the volume, have been filed separately (MS 23116iiD).

They include a fragment of a late eighteenth century manuscript containing 'Carol Plygain' by John Cadwaladr, verses by Ellis William, Llwunc[y]nfal, etc. ('Howel Jones his Book ... 1792,' 'Howel Jones Llwyncunfal ... ber 1792'); a volume of poetry including three libretti entitled 'Samson (Cyfieithiad o waith [John] Mil[ton]', 'Deborah' ('Finis May 4th 1861') and 'Y Cread' ('11/3/62'), and Welsh and English originals and translations, 1860-3 (e.g. 'The Hymns of A[nn] G[riffiths] rendered into English', 'Gray's Elegy'); a draft list of 'Hen Ddiarhebion' [old Welsh proverbs] rendered into Welsh verse (nos 1-540; one section dated 3 March [18]63); copious draft bibliographies of prose and poetry works by individual Welsh authors; etc. The material was originally tied in a brown paper wrapper inscribed by J[ohn] B[allinger], 'Library of the late Rev. An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks.
