Woodcutters' account and schedule of leases

This volume was initially used as a woodcutters' account, 1748-49, giving the names of woods, the names of the woodcutters employed at each, the cords cut by each man, and the amount paid. The woods cut include woods in Miskin, Cwm Cynon, Ystradyfodwg, Llanwynno, Gwaelod-y-waun, Bedwellte, Llanfihangel, Gelli-gaer, Gelliwastad, Llanedern, Maes-teg, Rhydri, Llanisien, Merthyr, Henllys, Llantrisant, Llanfabon, and Risca, and belong to William Basset, esq., William Morgan, esq., Thomas Morgan, esq., Henry Morgan, esq., Roger Powell, esq., Gabriel Lewis, esq., Lord Plymouth, and Thomas Lewis, esq., among others. Many of the accounts are settled with an acknowledgement of having received the balance, often as charcoal, often signe by a collier. -- The other end of the volume was subsequently (c.1779) used for abstracts of leases in Machen, 1690-1778, Bedwas, 1722-79, Mynyddislwyn, 1724-78, Bedwellte, 1697-1776, Gelli-gaer and Merthyr, 1770, Eglwysilan, 1765-75, Marshfield, 1710-76, St Mellons, 1773-76, Coedcernyw, 1772, Llanfihangel-y-fedw, 1773-76, St Brides, 1776, St Brides and Peterstone, 1773, and Rumney, 1771.

Wood ledger

A volume of ledger accounts, 1811-1822, of Messrs Harford Crocker & Co., William Jones, tanner, and John Vaughan, whose accounts are brought forward from AEW /1, and Messrs Hughes & Powell, a new account. The volume encloses loose papers covering the period 1817-1827.

A ledger account book relating to the sale of trees and coppice for timber and cordwood. The accounts detail the quantity and price of wood sold, and receipts in payment from each purchaser, which include individuals, coal companies, ironworks, chemical companies and wheelwrights.

A volume of ledger accounts for cord wood, coppice wood, timber, bark, smart hoops and poles taken from woods in a number of parishes, including Basaleg, Bedwas, Bedwellty, Betws, Henllys, Llanfaches, Llanfihangel Roggiet, Machen, Malpas, Mynyddislwyn, Newchurch, Risca, Rhydri, St Brides Netherwent, St Woolloos and Undy, as well as from Tredegar Old Park, Machen Park and Cleppa Park. Woods mentioned include ash, beech, chestnut, elm, oak, walnut. Some of the accounts are continued in AEW /2.

Wood ledger

A volume of ledger accounts for sales of trees, thinnings and coppice from Cefn Mabli, Gwent College, Ruperra Park, Tredegar Park, Wentlloog Castle, and from the parishes of Draethen, Llanfedw, Machen, Marshfield, Newport, Risca, Roggiet, Rumney and Whitchurch. Species mentioned include ash, beech, elm, fir, horse chestnut, larch, lime, oak, poplar, Spanish chestnut, sycamore and walnut.

William Williams's settled account

Settled account of William Williams with Sir Charles Morgan (signed by Evan Phillips on his behalf) for the rents, casual profits and promiscuous payments of the Tredegar estate in William Williams's Machen collection in the parishes of Bedwas, Bedwellte, Llantarnam, Machen, Mynyddislwyn and Pant-teg in Monmouthshire, and in Eglwysilan, Gelli-gaer, Rhydri and Rhyd-y-gwern in Glamorgan.

William Morrice's settled accounts

The settled accounts of William Morrice with Thomas Morgan, esq., for rents due in the parishes of Coedcernyw, Llanfihangel-y-fedw, Marshfield, Peterstone, Rumney, St Brides and St Mellons, plus taxes and promiscuous payments made in the collection. The 1769 account was settled 14 Dec. 1770.
