A manuscript entitled 'Llyfr Ofer Gerddi Margaret Davies 1738', being a collection of 'carolau', 'dyrïau', 'Penillion', and 'englynion' compiled by Margaret Davies (c. 1700-85?), of Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd, Merioneth. An analysis of the volume ('Bannau'r Llyfr hwn ... by the scribe describes the contents as follows: 'Y Part Cynta or Llyfr sydd O Garolau Maswedd gan mwya. Yna Cerddi ar amryw fesurau Er Gofyn amryw Roddion. Ac yna Dirifau ne ddyriau Mawl merched. Ychydig Alar Gerddi. Amryw fasweddgerdd I ferched Ac ar amryw fesurau. Englynion'. The authors represented in the volume are Hugh Maurice, Lewis Owen ('o Dyddyn y Gareg'), William Phylip, Hugh ab Cadwaladr, Robert Edward Lewis, Hugh ab Evan ('Caer Cyrach'), Willm. Several of the poems are anonymous, and some are written on the dorse of an undated letter (mid eighteenth century) from Robt. Anwyl, Hengae, to his uncle Robert Vaughan, Dolymelynllyn (wages requested by an employee, news from Guilsfield) and on the dorse of address leaves of letters to Margaret Davies at Goedtref [Llanelltyd, Merioneth], at Plâstanyfynwent, Dolgelley, at Plas Tan y Bwlch, and at Berthlwyd, near Dolgelley; also bound in the volume (pp. 249-74) are printed 'carolau' and 'cerddi' by John Rhydderch, Huw Morys, Thomas Edwart ['Twm o'r Nant'], Morus Robert, Dafydd Thomas, and Gruffudd Edward ('o Lan-Silin').
