The collection comprises late nineteenth century lists, abstracts and transcripts of deeds and documents of Rhys family and Dynevor estate interest, 31 Edw. I-1720; newspaper cuttings and letters relating to Charles A. U. Rhys, 8th Baron, 1918-1930; correspondence and papers relating to the publications of the Black Raven Press, a publishing company owned by Richard Rhys, 9th Lord Dynevor, 1965-1985; and typescript scripts of productions by the Richard Rhys production company, also owned by Lord Dynevor, 1961-1982. These include works by the following playwrights: Gerald Hanley, James Hanley, Gwyn Thomas and R. S. Thomas.

A volume containing humorous prose (ff. 4-16 verso) and poetry (ff. 19-33), [1867], by a young woman identifying herself as 'Angelina Workington' (f. 9), for her uncle, 'Slatey Hughes Esquire', as a memento of their visit to Llandudno and the surrounding area in July 1867.
The volume consists of a fanciful prologue (ff. 4-6), followed by equally fanciful accounts of excursions to the Great Orme (ff. 9-10 verso, 12-13 verso) and Capel Curig (ff. 14 recto-verso, 16 recto-verso), and poems entitled 'Ffos Noddyn' (ff. 19-20), 'A Growl from Gelert's Ghost' (ff. 22-25), 'The Streamlet's Song' (ff. 27-29) and 'Excelsior' (ff. 31-33). The manuscript is written mainly in black ink, with some words in red, blue, green and gold paint. In addition there is an illuminated title page (f. 2) and dedication (f. 3), with further illuminations or decorative initials on ff. 4, 8, 9, 16, 19, 22, 31; together with five pen drawings (ff. 7, 11, 15, 17, 22) and a photograph of the Great Orme, Llandudno (pasted in on f. 8). The name 'Angelina Workington' is presumed to be a pseudonym; the writer may actually be the Isabella Slater to whom the volume was gifted in 1862 (see f. 1).

A volume containing an incomplete holograph essay, in Welsh, by the Rev. T. Glwysfryn Hughes, entitled 'Ychydig o Adgofion Am Fryn Eglwys yn Iâl o'r Flwyddyn 1837 hyd 1867', being a history of the parish of Bryneglwys, Denbighshire, 1837-1867; together with some poetry by Hughes (ff. 23-26; 33 verso-36 verso inverted text).

A scrapbook, 1867-1882, begun by Evelyn Phillip Shirley of Ettington Park, Warwickshire, following his visit in August 1867 to his friend W. W. E. Wynne of Peniarth, Merioneth.
The volume initially contained ten photographs of Peniarth and its environs (ff. 11, 19, 21, 23, 25, 29, 31, 33, 37, 40) with numerous further photographs (and photographs of prints) being added showing other local views and related houses such as Glyn (ff. i verso-47 passim). Also included are leaves from W. W. E. Wynne's Pedigree of the Family of Wynne of Peniarth… (London, 1872), with hand-painted coats of arms added (ff. 2 recto-verso, 12 recto-verso, 20 recto-verso, 22 recto-verso, 24 recto-verso, 26 recto-verso), and additional manuscript notes by Wynne (ff. 13-18); four letters to Shirley from W. W. E. Wynne, [1868]-1877 (ff. i verso, 3-10, 34-35); three letters, June-July 1880, from W. R. M. Wynne (ff. 41-44) and E[dward] Breese (ff. 45-46), following W. W. E. Wynne's death, with copies of Breese's obituary of Wynne (ff. 50-52); and papers relating to the building and consecration of the Wynne Memorial Church at Bryncrug, 1880-1882 (ff. 53-59).

The cuttings relate mainly to the Merthyr, Aberdare and Cardiff areas. They relate mainly to the industrial and commercial life of south Wales and some to political activities. A few concern Lord Senghennydd himself.

Journal of two tours in North Wales by Charles Edward Rawlins (1811-1884) of Liverpool, merchant and political writer, in June 1866 and September 1868, accompanied on the first by Isaac Bancroft Cooke and Samuel Bulley, both cotton brokers of Liverpool, and on the second by his wife and children, including his son, Herbert, whose later signature appears on f. i. Two maps showing the itineraries are included, and the second tour (ff. 27-110 verso) is illustrated with engravings, [1850s]-[1860s].

Autograph album, 1866-1868, belonging to the journalist John Griffith (Gohebydd), compiled during visits to Reconstruction Era America to report for Baner ac Amserau Cymru. The album contains eighty-four signatures and inscriptions, mainly by Senators and other senior politicians and social reformers (ff. 3-49).
The signatories include the future Presidents James A. Garfield (f. 32) and U[lysses] S. Grant (f. 37), future Vice-Presidents Tho[mas] A. Hendricks (f. 7) and Schuyler Colfax (f. 26), Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton (f. 36), presidents pro-tem of the Senate L[a] F[ayette] S. Foster (f. 19) and B[enjamin] F. Wade (f. 22), the abolitionists and social reformers Frederick Douglass (f. 38), Wendell Phillips (f. 45) and Anna E. Dickinson (f. 46), the actor James E. Murdoch (f. 41) and the writer R[alph] Waldo Emerson (f. 43). A few autographs are of Welshmen (ff. 44, 49).

A group of letters largely relating to Harry H. Davis of Pennsylvania, Consul of the United States of America at Cardiff, which include certificates and other material relating to Davis's diplomatic career. There is also some material relating to Ephraim Henry Davies of Barry, including a holograph letter, 1933, from J. Dyfnallt Owen.
Amongst the references made are those to President Ulysses S. Grant; Lady Schreiber (formerly Lady Charlotte Guest); and Augusta Hall, Lady Llanover.

Field notes, May-September 1865, by Thomas Sopwith of London relating to a survey of the mountains of Moelwyn Mawr and Moelwyn Bach, Merioneth. The notebook contains thirty-eight sketches (ff. 2-39, 124 verso), ten of which are executed in ink and wash colour, and the remainder in pencil, all drawn in May 1865. A further section of explanatory notes in ink, May-September 1865 (ff. 92-117), records the background to the survey, together with details of the work undertaken by Sopwith and his surveyor, Henry Robinson, including trials for slate (ff. 110-111).
The work was commissioned by the Commissioners of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues in preparation for a three-dimensional geological model by Sopwith. This 'model of the mountain Moel Wyn' is referred to in Sopwith, Description of a Series of Elementary Geological Models (London, 1875), p. 78, as being 'open to public view', but its present whereabouts is unknown; see further Robert Sopwith, Thomas Sopwith Surveyor: An Exercise in Self-help (Bishop Auckland, 1994), p. 196.
