Two volumes of epigrams, epitaphs and other verses collected and transcribed from the papers of the Reverend Eliezer Williams by his son St George Armstrong Williams in 1836. They include translations from Horace and among the other titles are 'A Tribute of Gratitude from the Peasantry of Ayron's Vale to their Landlord for conscientiously lowering their rents', 'The Sceptic', 'Ancient & Modern authors', 'The Topers', 'Spendthrifts' 'Celia (imitated from Martial)', 'Laura', 'Stale jests against matrimony', 'The National Debt', 'On a Drunkard', 'Translator', 'On a little Fellow (from the Greek)', 'On a noted Liar', 'Occassioned by some illiberal reflections thrown on Dr Johnson's memory', 'The Miser', 'Gluttony', 'On Lieut. Price's defence of th Islands of Marçon', 'On a late proposition to Great Britain of an Armistice by sea', 'On the capture of the 'Guillaume Tell'', 'On Lieut. In one instance the blank dorse and margins of a printed pamphlet bearing the superscription 'An Affectionate Address to Colliers, Miners, and Labouring People', 1785 (pp. 61-2, 67-8) have been used for writing notes, and in two other instances notes have been written on leaves bearing two poems entitled 'War' and 'Liberty' attributed to Morgan Williams, 1821 (pp. 109-12) and a poem entitled 'Picture of a Good Man' attributed to Edward Martin, 1818 (pp. 101-02, 119-20).

A collection by W. J. Roberts of the poetical works of Evan Evans (Ieuan Glan Geirionydd) entitled 'Gemau Glan Geirionydd' (changed to 'Y Geirionydd'; c.f. the printed edition Geirionydd as edited by W. J. Roberts). A table of the poems gives the date of composition of the principal items. The book was later used by W. J. Roberts to record his own compositions: an ode, with translation, being an address of welcome to Earl Carrington and family to Gwydir, 1896; 'Hir a Thoddeidiau' - 'Talhaiarn', 'marwolaeth Eben Fardd', 'Llywyddion Eisteddfod Caernarfon', 1862, 'Y Cae Gwenith', 'Ŷf-golofn Conway Rowley'; 'caneuon' - 'Pont Dolgarrog', 'Caneuon Serch', 'Days Gone by', 'Verses dedicated to --- Miss', 'Gwywiad fy Rhosyn', and 'One Pound and one shilling'; and 'englynion' - 'I'r Mochyn', 'I David Williams ('Alaw Goch')', 'Rhyl fel Ymdrochle', and 'I Weinidog yr Efengyl'.

An album, begun by Sarah Wilson, 1827, containing copies of English poetry by James Montgomery, Felicia Hemans, T. K. Harvey, M. A. Browne, George Crabbe, and others. In 1883, the album was used by Padarn Davies, who copied into it the text of 'y sidg o Droea' with the following colophon: 'Gwallter Archiagon Rhydychain a droes y darn hwn o'r cronicl o Lading i Gymraeg. Ac Edward Kyffin ei ail ysgrifenodd fo i Siôn Trefor Trefalyn ysgwier pan oedd oed Crist 1577. A Dewi Siôn o Dref y rhyw yw'r trydydd ysgrifenydd yn oed ein Iachawdwr 1761, Mai-hafhing 9d. The volume contains facetious 'Resolutions for the Preservation of regularity at Shanes Castle during the meeting for the Performance of Cymbeline' by Frederick, Lord North, 1786 (pp. 1-2) (cf. NLW MS 11167B); miscellaneous poems including an apparently unpublished poem by Byron, 'On a Lock of Hair', commencing 'Swear not at all, but if thou must' (p. 13), another two of his poems (pp. 13, 24), poems by R. B. Sheridan (pp. 5, 7, 14) and a number of rhymes by 'Mr. Cowper' [?William Cowper] (pp. 3-4); a famous sermon on malt attributed to Dr John Dod (pp. 8-9); and humorous letters, epigrams, epitaphs, anagrams and charades including two composed by Charles James Fox (pp. 25, 28) and four composed by Professor [Richard] Porson (pp. 28-9, 31, 69). The answers to the anagrams and charades are in Greek orthography written in reverse.

A group of manuscript papers of Felicia Dorothea Hemans (née Browne), including eight holograph letters written (where indicated) from Bronwylfa, near St. Asaph, and from Milburn Tower, near Edinburgh, the correspondents including M[atthew] Nicholson, Liverpool (1812) and the Reverend H. H. Milman (1823); English translations of three Italian sonnets, together with copies of the originals, 1811; holograph poems:- 'Imelda', 'The Messenger Bird', 'Gertrude', 'The Tombs of Plataea', 'The View of Castri' (incomplete) and 'The Vespers of Palermo' (fragment); two copies of an engraved portrait of Mrs. Hemans, published in 1839; a short biographical note; and a cutting of an appreciation of her poetry published on the centenary of her death.

A notebook of William Davies, Froodvale (Ffrwdfâl), bound in brown paper and inscribed 'W. Davies, Ph. D. April 12, 1846'. It contains extracts from expositary notes on scripture and notes of sermons, 1846-9 and undated, preached at Park[-y-rhos], Crug[-y-bar], Esger[dawe] and Rhydybont Congregational churches and at farmhouses called Penrhiwe and Tynypyllau in the Cynwyl Gaeo area, Carmarthenshire; poetry in Welsh and English, 1847 and undated, titles which include: 'To Rev. D[avid] E[vans, rector of] Kilgerran', 'On the Marriage of Rev. M. Jones R[ural] Dean', and 'To Tegid' [i.e. John Jones ('Ioan Tegid')], etc.; a few particulars of 'Pubs', i.e. preaching publications, mainly in Pembrokeshire, June-July 1847; and memoranda of curricula at Brecon [Independent] and Carm[arthen Presbyterian] Colleges 1846, and of book titles, of personal addresses, etc.

A volume containing forty-five holograph letters, 1820-30, mostly dated, on guards, with a few drafts and miscellaneous papers, from Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'; 1795-1855), writing at various times from Trefriw, Croesoswallt [Oswestry], Berriw (Aberrhiw), Llanrwst, St Bees, Chester and Christleton to 'Teulu Darowen' (addressed generally to the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837), Darowen) and to individual members of the Darowen family, viz. the Reverend David Richards, vicar of Llansilin, the Reverend Thomas Richards (1785-1855), Berriew, later rector of Llangynyw, M[eistresa]n Sian Rhisiard, Darowen and the Reverend Richard Richards, Caerwys, and one letter, 1822, from J[ames] Evans, Sec[retary], Cymmrodorion Institution, London to Mr Evan Evans, Grammar School, Berriew, Montgomeryshire. The subjects discussed by Evan Evans include his health, education and financial position, literary matters (references to Y Gwyliedydd), his situation in the church, etc. The other items in the volume include a draft of a letter to [ ] Parry and lines of verse entitled 'Poor little Sweep'. The present arrangement of the letters is chronological, however a list [?in the autograph of J. H. Davies] inside the front cover relates to earlier numbers preceded by the letters 'E. E.' [? for Evan Evans] which are to be found on many of the letters near the address.

A composite volume of three small notebooks containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and English verses by 'Sioseb Nerquis', with some 'englynion' by 'I. Ddu' and 'Merddin Wylts [sic] o Nerquis'; and transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen, c. 1861, of Welsh metrical psalms and hymns by Thomas Roberts ('Philo Cadfan'), Joseph Marpole, William Jones, John Williams (Dolgellau), and anonymous compositions. One of the hymns, dated 1861, is in memory of the Reverend James Hamer 'Offeiriad Llanfihangel [yng Ngwynfa] a Discybl i David Harris [?Carno]'.

A small scrap book [of Morris Davies, Bangor] containing cuttings of English poetry by David Williams Breeze, Portmadoc, 1844, and others; articles entitled 'Welsh Literature' (containing 'A biographical memoir of Dr John Davies of Mallwyd') and 'Hen Emynwyr' (Dafydd William, Llandeilo Fach, and Thomas Williams, Bethesda'r Fro), book reviews, etc. Sources of some of the cuttings are noted as follows: Bangor Chronicle [?North Wales Chronicle], Carnarvon Herald [Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald], Herald Cymraeg, Y Goleuad, Baner Cymru and Christian World. The volume was originally used by Jane Davies, Upper Bangor to record English poetry, 1832-5, and lists of mottoes of titled and landed families. The spine is lettered 'Original Poetry'.

'Nisus & Euryalus. Episode from 9th Aeneid of Virgil', viz. a metrical translation by Thomas Powell of Aeneid IX, 176-449, dedicated to his son, Frederick Charles [Powell], with the Latin hexameters facing, written in another hand [? that of F. C. Powell, see note on p. [10]]. Beneath the dedication is a note ending: 'This Translation by the Translators attention to originality, looks like his own Invention & not a Translation (?)S. T.'.
